Hi John,

Yes pod needs to come out thenyou can access the bulbs.

IIllumination is provided by 3 wedge base bulbs (from memory 3W). I keep some spares and remember they were pretty easy to find.

The bulbs illuminate the guages via plastic prism. Probably the bulbs have just darkened with age, but the prism itself can gradually go murky.

Hang on in your original post you said lighting for speedo and temp!

If you mean the dot matrix display for digi-dash then I have no idea what the fix is. Yours is first oroblem i've ever read of problem with display.

Suggest Rennlist search and/or post. If someone there doesnt know, then no one does!

thats it you have it, its the dot matrix display, thankyou

the display is dimming and not easy to read, when the pod was taken out to replace the outside led bulbs for the dash on the re installation the matrix was even dimmer than before, could it be the garages fault or just that the display is on the way out

Hi John :)

2 thoughts...

1, When I replaced my standard S2 dash illumination bulbs with LEDs the dash dimmer didnt work afterwards...or rather it did but the LEDs were too dim and the dimmer (rheostat) would only dim them further... so maybe thats affecting your matrix display...

2, Did your dimmer work before ???

All the best Brett :)

hi brett,

thanks for that, yes they were working but the right hand side dot matrix was dim now the rhs dot matrix is brighter and the left hand one is dim so its kind of reversed the opposite way around

does that make any sense,

clear as mud

Hi John :)

Sort of Lol....

Sounds like you need a new matrix thingy...if that does the same...maybe its the LEDs causing it....

All the best Brett :)

The good news is display module is available as a separate part

92864199200

The bad news is it's showing £273 ex-vat but I haven't checked on PET to see if it's actually available.

The dot matrix display is backlit, the fact that the dimness has moved to the other side suggests that the lighting unit has been replaced the other way round or the bulbs have been put back in a different order! Don't go buying a new matrix without investigating as I think the lighting unit is separate.

I have a similar problem in that the normal display is fine, but whenever I get a warning which should be red instead of the normal orange colour the display goes blank which can be quite alarming if you suddenly notice it happening but have no idea what the car is trying to warn you about  (although if you get a bright torch and shine it at the correct angle you can just about make out the diagram). I assume in my case the white backlight works but the red one doesn't, however I haven't got around to getting it seen-to as I fear it may need more than just a simple bulb replacement.

If it was me I'd remove it and have a look at what is going in with it. Might just be a dry joint or something else fairly simple! You could change all the dash bulbs and clean up/grease (of the dielectric variety) the rheostat, this would eliminate any future lighting problems!

A brand new set went for a fraction of that on eBay last week. 928 owners need to spend a lot of time monitoring eBay - have saved small fortune on parts that way (but have gone broke saving a small fortune as can't resist bargain parts)
