Does anyone know whether the 928 S2 ECU can be run outside of the car? I know some ECUs will not work unless the immobiliser circuits etc are all wired in. I only want to use the ECU to run the engine and generate a tach output in my Landy.

On Fleabay etc I have also seen 'ignition' ECUs advertised commonly... this is strange as the engine has dual dizzys! Does anyone know why?

Also anyone have any thoughts on the pics of my engine I posted?

Hi :)

I see no reason why the TWO ECUs wont run out of the car (1 is fuel, 1 is ignition)

I have run mine loose from their mountings and the 4.7 as far as I know does not have the immobiliser connected through the ECU ( i COULD BE WRONG THOUGH)

More engine pics ??? or the old ones you posted ?

All the best Brett :)

I test S2 LH and EZ-F ECUs all the time on my test bench. The EZ-F ECU has twin outputs to drive the twin output stages and coils, which are needed due to the 90degree crankshaft of the 928.

That's good to know that I can just buy the Porsche ECUs and not have to fit a MegaSquirt system. Though I imagine one day I will move to a programmable ECU! Cheers guys - will just need to buy some now!

So I assume the ignition ECU replaces the points and controls the mechanical and vacuum advance? So why did they just not go to coil packs or COP?

Brett: yeah I meant the old ones... just wanted to get peoples opinions on the state of the engine etc :) Also saw your vid of your motor on youtube doing a burn out... sweet!

85/86 LH and EZ-F ECUs are fully remappable with the SharkTuner...... see my website www.jdsporsche.com

COP wasn't invented in 1983.....

Thats good news... though have just looked at the price!!!!!! Could get a megasquirt for 3/4ths of the cost!

Ah yeah that makes sense then. Perhaps one day I will convert to COP or coil packs
