Yeah sounds good, they are obviously decent people where you bought the 928.

:( Well the car went back 8 days ago and I haven't seen it since, the last time I used it I had to put 3/4 of litre of coolant in it which was a bit disconcerting. This turned out to be one of the hoses from the header tank which has been replaced, apparently the main delay has been waiting for a new clutch. I'm unlikely to get it back this week as although the clutch has now turned up they're obviously busy with other pre booked stuff so now waiting for a slot to get it in there and do it, I'm starting to suffer from withdrawl symptoms!!! :(

I feel your pain. Not had mine for over 3 weeks now while they fit in around other cars chaging the brake system and wheel bearings. I have a load of new parts to fit as well :(

 I'm starting to get extremely pi**ed off now, my car was eventually taken to GCR at Wigston yesterday and I was told by Bond Street that I should have it back Tuesday. I phoned GCR to confirm this today as the Salesman at Bond Street was off for the day, guess what "No chance". Apparently they ordered a ZF Sachs clutch which they were expecting yesterday only to be told they don't make them for the GTS anymore!
I don't know where they are now sourcing a clutch from but it sure as hell isn't going to be there in time for me to get to the regional TIPEC meeting on Tuesday. Why it's taken the thick end of 3 weeks to get from Bond Street to GCR's I don't know but I shall be interested to hear, some one has actually offered to buy it off me and at the moment that's very tempting.

I'd just reject it and get your money back rather than sell it. Lot less hassle. If you sell it to someone they'll have comeback on you if anything else goes wrong.
On the other hand it is a stunning looking car and if they can change the clutch and fix it you could be on to a winner with a brand new clutch?
Not fair though ... they are taking far too long.
Hope it resolves quickly for you.

:) Some good news to report, apparently the reason it couldn't go to GCR sooner was because they were fully booked and didn't have a safe place to store it before they could get it in the workshop. They stripped the clutch out yesterday and it turns out its the spigot bearing not the clutch and there doesn't appear to be any damage to the input shaft etc. so hopefully I'll have the car back soon. Too late to get to the TIPEC meet in it tonight but at least it's progress. :D

That's better news.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your car after all these threads. Which TIPEC region were you planning to get to?

I feel for you, as you only just bought the car and have hardly seen it. The trouble is there are not many people who can work on 928's.
Mine developed a knocking noise from the transmission, I rang my usual well known specialist, they said to "bring it in Monday". So I took it and a week later had not heard anything so rang them "we've not touched it yet" "When will you get on to it" "All our ramps are full, next week maybe" "Do you want me to collect it for now" "Yes that would help" (it's a 60 mile round trip and I have to call on a friend to take me/collect me each time)
So I collected it and they said I could take it back the next week. Next week I rang on the Monday "we can't take it, we will ring you on Friday" Nothing yet and that's Friday last week....I don't want to ring again as I feel I am pestering them, but it's a month now since the fault occurred and still no sign of a repair.

Hi :)

You say "there are not many people who can work on 928`s....

I think a better way of saying that is there are not many people who WANT TO WORK ON 928`s

The answer as always is Paul Anderson....

All the best Brett :)

:) I think it's group south Anglia region, I went tonight albeit in a VW! Brett I hear what your saying about Paul Anderson being the answer but I've tried e mailing and leaving a message and he's never got back to me and it's a long way to go from the other side of the country on spec. I really can't be arsed with people who don't even have the common decency to reply to an e mail or answer a phone. :(

Yes - Paul Anderson is notoriously hard to get hold of but then he is never short of work either due to the fact that he knows the 928 inside and out and is competitively priced. [no affiliation]

I took my 928 to the other top 928 garage last October [Loe Bank] and faced a similar problem. They we're totally swamped with work and as I gave them the impression that the job was not that urgent they took over 2 months to finish it, but it was expertly done and at a fraction of the cost of a main dealer. However, the money saved was off-set by the cost of having to have the car trailer-ed there and back. (£250) :?

Sure, you can take your 928 to your local Independent garage who 'say' they can look at it straight away but have never actually ever seen or worked on a 928 - just imagine the consequences - even jacking up the 928 incorrectly can damage it. The long term costs could be astronomic.

It's all a bit of a gamble unfortunately and a problem that's only going to get worse as the 928 becomes rarer and rarer and Porsche mechanics who have actually worked on and know the 928 retire. :(

The best plan is to find the all Porsche garages that are closest to you and then go by recommendations from this and other forums.

Ben

You don't have a location in your profile but Ray Northway does a few 928s & I know he worked on Chris Kenwards 928 & Chris was happy.

I usually use Loe Bank Motors, and yes they are very good, but also very busy. To be honest I've been using the 928 with the transmission fault still present, you can't hear the knocking noise from inside the car!

I'm going to Loe Bank Motors today to get some new tyres so will see if I can get them to put my car back on their to do list, as I think they may have forgotten about it.

:) Well some excellent news to report my 928 will be back with me tommorow and the Director of the garage that I bought it from, who owned the car previously, is bringing it down personally! Sadly the forecast for the weekend isn't great so I may not go too far in it as I want to change the tyres. They're all over the legal limit but getting close to 3mm which is the point at which I like to change them, Lightning which tyres are you going with? I think it was Brett who recommended the Falkens but I generally tend to stay more mainstream so I wasn thinking of either Conti CS's 3's or perhaps the Good Year F1 Asymetrics? It's presently got Kumho Ecsta's fitted but grip in both the dry & wet is my main priority and if possible with good ride quality. :)

I went for the Continentals, as they seem to be well regarded, plus Porsche themselves recommend them. I'm sure everybody has their favourite tyre though! I must admit I was tempted by the "budget" tyres from Black Circles, only £145 for two 245/45 R16 fitted, but went with the Conti's. Hell, they were only twice as much....what is money anyway! I've never had any since I bought the 928.
