Are,nt the fuses in an 83 the ceramic type, they are in mine, 80 MY, which I recently refurbed the board.., cleaned etc with new ceramics with no problems .
The only problems you get with ceramic fuses is the fact that people neglect them, Iv,e never had any issues in twenty one years !
I stand to be corrected ?

Hi ,You are right about the fuses, Where do you get yours?? Jez

Hi Jez, I replaced all mine with (18@ 8amp WHITE ) (9@ 16amp RED) (5@ 25 amp BLUE)
And before I did I cleaned every fuse board contact with my Dremel with a fine BRASS wire wheel, ( DON,T FORGET TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY  )
The fuses I bought from V W P were very good quality.

BTW.., all fuse ratings are listed in the driver handbook for individual years

Just an up-date ,

Played around with the electrics today for about 3 hours changed all the fuses and cleaned the connections ,Cleaned and re-fixed the ground wires above the fuse box "Bingo" most things are working now! Even got the sunroof going better than ever, One thing that seems to be puzzleing me is that all the lights are working except on dipped ,high-beem is ok,Any ideas?

Also I have cleaned the earths above the fuse box (5no), The ones by the air-con rad (3no) and the battery strap ,can anyone tell me where any others might be?

List of next electrical jobs

Interior lights dont come on when doors open
Rear wiper stopped working
Drivers window motor change
oil pressure needle hits the max on ignition and stays there

I have attached a few pics of my baby! Jezzy

It is a tidy car, bodywork wise I would be suprised to find a 30 year old car that is as dent free as this one not a ripple or dink anywhere ,a major reason I want to save her. A bit more good news is that I have found someone to roll me a couple of new galvanized sills , and the best bit is they only want a "drink" £20-£30 Top result!! just got to make a template.

Will keep you upto date Regards Jez

Been to see Jezza and his 928 today and he's a top bloke dedicated to getting 'once healthy' 928 back on the road. :bounce:

He hasn't done himself any favours leaving outside for all that time but he's already identified the small corroded areas in the rear chassis and is planning to repair and even cut-out and replace some (sill's etc.) , although I don't envy his task. - Just shows how dedicated he is.

And I hope seeing my 928 example has inspired him even more. :D

Our cars did look similar, paint colour, wheels, red calipers etc. although mine was a bit shiny'er. :albino:

Good luck!

Hi Ben

Thanks for coming down and for the encouragement! Top man ,,I will keep you informed of my progress and when I get my car up-to scratch I will get in touch and come and see you , The "twins" would look good parked up together but I doubt I will ever be able to clean up my bonnet hinges to match yours lol ,Without a doubt I would think barring a near 30 year old 928 kept in bubble wrap since new you must have one of the best examples in the country!! Lucky man

Talk soon Jezzy

Please keep pictures like Ben does. Besides making me happy looking at them, they do help when explaining what you've done/need. :)

Hi Guys

Latest update

Had a good couple of days on the car Jobs as follows

Intensive wash system replaced motor got it squirting on windscreen !
Replaced lights relay ,Have now got main beam Happy days!
Sorted sunroof alignment and unblocked sunroof drains ,No leaks!
Fitted refurbished headliner and re-covered sunroof sliding door.
Changed n/s front headlight ,cleaned contacts.
Made template for new sills to be rolled
Fitted refurbished drivers door interior light switch ,

All the electrics are just about sorted now ,Just a few issues with water getting in around the rear hatch area to sort out need to seal trim at top of glass and I have a feeling water is getting in round the rear wiper assembly ,Still trying to locate parts for the timing belt tensioner rebuild so the water pump and belt will be the next big job , But starting to get on top of things and not as bad as I thought things might be initially
