I opened both and closed the one on the inside first. I never used one of those automatic units that use tyre pressure, I always had my son help pump the pedal. Remember not to pump it full strokes or the cylinder seal can get damaged. I'm sure you're thinking "granny and suck eggs", but I can't help myself.

Sorry, by inside I mean the one nearest the flexible hose. :D

I open outer bleed first, then bleed, close then bleed inner. Working from caliper furthest from master cylinder and finishing with bleeder on the cylinder.

I'm sure the pedal/assistant method can do a great job, but in absence of willing helper I am big fan of Motive Bleeder which is pumped up to pressure (rather than taking pressure via tyre). You can do a good and fast job single handed

Maybe that's why I was never fully pleased with the breaks on my S4? They were big enough to stop a train, but somehow I never felt they were performing enough. I remember by Opel Manta could stop on its nose, and I expected the same from the 928. Even my 944 and 924 felt better. :?

Lee your bleeding procedure may have been ok (but may have resulted in air in connecting pipe between 2 sides of caliper), but poor braking performance could have been result of the plate lift problems well-documented here. If the pads were not able to move freely then car ain't going to stop as well as your old Manta!

When I bled my brakes I flushed out the old fluid with new and then ran a tube from each nipple, in turn, back to the reservoir and pumped the fluid round until all the bubbles where out (even the microscopic ones).

Also - the silicon based racing brake fluid I used was much thicker and easier to work with than the standard stuff.

Result - best brakes ever. :bounce:
