I know what you're thinking Brett - corroded pivot pin!

In fact that was easiest part of job. She slid straight out and was remarkably clean. An excellent Sealey cordless impact wrench made very short work of spinning nut offone end. But car only done 72500 and has been cosseted. Doing same job on my previous 1987 S4 which had had a hard life it took a few hours patient turning, tapping, spraying on penetrant, rinse and repeating till the long pin was out.

The job should only take a few hours per side but spread over a few days I've taken much longer. Big time users were:

- having to remove all the brake stuff, as on a 91 MY the front nut of pivot pin is right up against brake backing plate (they seem to vary year to year). As usual removing caliper bolts took some time finding rig combo of tools to get right access and angle to put torque on when just working on low axle stands

- cleaning parts/bolts/conical washers as they came off

- snapped couple of bolts on brake dustshield. Delayed getting refill for blowtorch to make sure didn't happen on other bolts (blowtorch worked a treat on them). Lots of time wasted trying and failing to remove the snapped bolts stuck in carrier

- being very careful with spring compressors

- waiting for wife to help me with pushing shock back into hatch - alignment is tricky so helps to have someone saying which was to move it and to put on nuts to hold it when it's in place

- I am a very slow worker in garage, but I'm enjoying it!

Cheers

Adrian
