Yeah too much bottom end does break stuff, but if you are serious about performance then you should get a drivetrain to handle the power. And unless you are doing all out track racing with a light car and close ratio box, a nice broad torque curve is more useful than an ultra high peak power. Even in our old supercharged formula racer we used to beat the turbo cars... they had 10% or more peak power but our torque curve was pretty much flat from 5000rpm all the way until 10,000!
