Post subject:  Question about wheels (Both Steel and Alloy)

Hey team, I need some help.
I live in London and am thinking of having my D90's refurbished.
Can anyone recommend a good place to have them done?

I just got a quote from "The Wheel Specialist" in North London for £350 inc VAT.
Has any one used them or know if this is a good rate for a refurb?

And also and do bare with me but this next section is a non Porsche related question.

My Dad has an old E-Type Jaguar. It is in great condition excluding one wheel which has had some of the finish chip away and it looks pretty bad.
They are steel wheels with a chrome finish on top.
You can't buy these wheels anymore and I am having trouble finding anywhere that can (or will) refurb steel wheels.
I wanted to get it done for my Dad as a Christmas pressie.

If any one can help I would be most grateful?

I believe that "Wheel Specialist" is a franchise and that therefore I would expect that up to a point it's a case of who you get, but I have not heard anything bad about them. I would recommend you ask on the Pistonheads London forum as it's not really a marque-sensitive question and there must be loads of people on there who have recent experience of getting wheels done in North London.

Nice E type: I always liked Primson Yellow as a colour for them. I suggest that for those, rather than asking a wheel place that these days will really only do alloys, you might want to discuss it with a plating shop out of the back of the classics rags. Someone who does bumpers and grilles and the like.

Could try this place - googled at random, I have not used them

Lipson is cheap iv heard, and have a good set up. Never understood why some places think they can charge twice as much 4 18" wheel then a 15". I had mine powercoated and some marks filled in. I payed £45 per wheel 18". That's tires removed and refitted and blanced. Acid bathed and powered coated. Then lacquered. Would think 350 is pretty strong. When that's twice what I payed and there 16". That was wheels and bodys. Westgate Kent.

I went 2 magic mend they wanted 60/70 per wheel, I looked at there set up and they had a wheel mashed up with tape!

I think there's a place called Wicked Wheels in Crawley. South East Region had a visit there a couple of years ago and were quite impressed. Several members have since used them.
Think they charge about £50 plus VAT per wheel but not sure if that was including a TIPEC Discount.

Many thanks to all those who have responded here.
I really appreciate it.

Still having problems getting help with the E-Type wheels but the Porsche looks like it will be OK.

Have a nice weekend all.

Google BJV Engineering.

Have sent many sets of wheels there, nr Hemel and they will do a cash deal.

Lepsons Swindon powder coating (not painted!!) mine. Removed tyres, chemically dipped, prepped, powder coated, mounted tyres, new valve and balanced, 3-4 day turnaround for £275. Wheels are now better than new with a more durable finish.

Here's the proof, just mounted but without the centre caps which were just being refurbed by Lepsons.

That looks lovely, I had those wheels on my old 924S and I wish they had looked like that, such a nice wheel and so light.

Blimey them wheels look really nice.

Might be worth a trip to Swindon then. At that price it would be foolish not to.
Centre caps too.

Thanks very much.
