hi my friend has a speedo that is not working and he wonders if there is a common problem that he can check.
It is an oval dash 944.

Yes it is. They don't like to be left standing. The sender on the gearbox will fail & usually they don't read at all below 35/40 Not registering any miles either. Then if the sender isn't replaced quickly it kills the speedo. I replaced my sender as soon as I got my car. It took 12 months of regular use for the speedo to repair itself. Taking the instrument console out & cleaning the brass contacts on the back can help as well. If all else fails it needs a new instrument. Plenty about second hand at the moment. A swift bang on the top of the dashboard at around 50 may wake it up if the sender isn't dead. :lol:
