I need to take out a family breakdown and recovery cover and need some feedback.
I haven't had cover for over 4x years and previously used AA and RAC .
Had some horrific experiences with both to be honest but the peace of mind of recovery is worth the price.

Has anyone any experience of Green Flag ? they have the best cover at half the price of the other two. How do they work and how quick is their response ? Are they any good in the South West ?

Always found the AA to be brilliant, had

collapsed rear half shaft on Ram SC (recovery home)
blown turbo (recovery home)
thrown water pump belt (AA man purchased from saab dealer 30 miles away came back and fitted)
blown diff and box (recovery to garage)
egt failed on company van (roadside fix)

all sorted extremely quickly and politely

We have been with the AA for years I would recommend them but cannot comment on the others.

jeezus fife I have to say you are a bit hard on your cars lol

I was with the AA for many years including insurance but two events put me off .
1.) I once had to wait 2x hours for recovery in a snow blizzard at night when my clutch went.
2. I once had my insurance cover cancelled with 4x months to go because the AA insurers had financial problems ? I got no alternative cover or recompense.

I suppose it all comes down to personal experience and brand loyalty doesn't it . You've obviously had a excellent experience with them

Hi Guys.
RAC have served me well a few times.

I had a bad experience with them to start when i broke my cambelt on my 1.6 Corsa and i wasnt covered.....they charged me the years fee up front and charged me for recovery.

Other than that one time, they have been quite quick to respond.
Once in coventry when i kerbed my astra and buckled one wheel and bent both wishbones. They recovered and took me home to wolverhampton.

Another time i had a puncture on the M6 and i couldnt be bothered to change the wheel so called them up (whats the cover for if you dont use it hey?) and they responded within 25 mins.

Once my alternater died on me (i wasnt covered) i parked up, joined them for my monthly fee, 3 hours later i told them i broke down! They came within 20 mins, charged up my battery and made sure i got home in one piece and then told me to replace the alternator.

My dad has been a member of the AA for over 7 years, he's never had a problem with them either, however i think they are a little more expensive than the RAC.

Always had good service from the AA. If you have a Lloyds Gold/Platinum account it's cheaper than AA membership & has lots of other benefits like worldwide travel insurance, Mobile insurance etc. The AA always nail older cars.
