Dear All

I'm not really into the idea of modifying my Porsche 944S with a full induction kit, however, I have a basic service due and instead of replacing like for like the existing paper panel air filter I am thinking of spending a little more and installing a performance panel filter (K & N or similar).

With my previous cars (Eunos and MGF) when it came to basic servicing I'd always try to use top quality oil and brake fluid and felt that upgrading the panel filter also would be of benefit to the car just in the context of simply helping it "breathe" a little better.

Is there any reason not to use a performance panel filter with the Porsche 944?

I fitted a K+N filter to the standard filter housing, but to be honest didn't notice any difference in performance, only benefit was 50k life

Long life? 40-50 pounds. Which is 4-5 filters change each year. Plus the oil kits can cause troble. I heard they let alot more grit and dust in, which can score the vales. Iv wondered if there's a way 2 keep the air box colder, maybe line it with something? Dose get very hot under that bonnet. But once ur moving I dought the air is sitting there long anoth. I personally don't think I gained anything from a cone filter set up on my S. Car felt upgrade when I put the stock box back on.

Thanks for your comments.

I didn't notice any improvements in performance with the panel filters fitted to my previous cars, so wasn't really expecting any improvement with the 944S - I just felt the for a relatively modest outlay the performance panel filters were a simple upgrade over the bog standard paper panel filters, but, I note the comments about scoring of the valves.
