i'm getting the prices today for the cambelt/balance belt replacements from my local mechanic, plus i'm ringing around specialists to compare.

now the cambelt and balance belts are a given, so what price should i expect for them to be done?

also, i've told the garage to inspect the cam chain and slippers, so what ball park figure would you expect for the belts, chain and slippers to be done? i want to compare prices to see the difference between a good local and an indie.

what have you guys paid for the work to be done?

cheers,

Al.

May want 2 get rollers and water pump done aswell. Iv had 2 change my belts twice, in my yearly ownership, due 2 a from engine seal leak, which was missed or became a leak shortly after the 1st belt change.

So a front engine reseal, and a water pump which are around 300 maybe needing adding.

My 1st was belt change, rollers and water pump. Can't rember 2 the pound but I think it was around 700 ish? That was at a local garge.

Then when I had my engine resealed, belts changed and chain and sliper. A speacilst quoted me 600 and up.

I got the parts my self and payed 220 in labour at another garge. But that was also changing the chain tenssoner and gear box oil , engine oil and filter and oil presure sender. Plus some off the threads need heli coiling as the bots snapped. Which worked out as about 30 an hour.

My plan was 2 get the specialist garge 2 re check belt tension after the wear period. Which will pro be 60 an hour.

Depends were you go. The 944 is a simple enough machine & simply needs a good mechanic. I pay £60 an hour but hes very quick. Some garages will budget for front seals with the belts. You should do them as if you don't they will start to leak & then you have to do it all again. Also depends if the rollers need replacing & you can't tell until the belts are off. Find a good garage you can trust & stick with them. You will be better looked after that way & the they will do it better if they know it's coming back to them! Hartech have some menu price guides but I don't pay anything like that! Advantage is they keep all the parts you will need in stock. Mine has to wait a couple of weeks for the bits to come if I guess wrong! :blackeye:

Hi - I had the belts and water pump on my S2 changed last month by my local specialist. I chose to go there as I preferred to go to someone who knows their way around a 944.

Total bill came to 750 (inc vat), without the water pump I was looking at around 350 so you can see where most of the cost came from! although, if you can't see any evidence of a new water pump in the service history id get it changed to be on the safe side.

Cheers
Lee
