Hi all, My S2 has just returned from a service and as usual, apart from the usual oil and filters, is as strong as an ox. I cannot believe how robust these cars are, I have owned it for 2 years, drive it every day and have covered nearly 30,000 miles. Apart from 4 tyres, servicing and 2 new suspension bushes, I have had to carry out no work at all. However, it is not all rosy in the garden, my mechanic informs me that my 19 old car is still sporting the original exhaust! It should last me into next year, but I would like some ideas on replacement. Do I go the whole hog and fit a performance system, go for stainless steel or look at alternative low cost options? Any thoughts? Marcus |

If you intend to keep it which from your post I take it you are, then I would go for a stainless replacement either a sport one or one of the original but new ones available at present on eBay. It is about £600 for a Sprintex one from Porscheshop from downpipes back or about £185/£200 for a Dansk STST cat backwards and around £230 for a decat pipe from Promax so the whole lot for around £400/£430. A none stainless replacement would be cheaper if you can find one to fit from say Bosal but is likely to only last a few years wheras a stainless one if fitted correctly should last another 19 years. My S2 is the same age as yours and is also on the original exhaust and the only thing I have had to do to it this year is have the cat welded where a seam had started to split £25 for a bit of specialist welding. But when it finally goes I will probably get a more freee flowing system in STST better sound, better performance, better looking and longer lasting. |

It's rare for the front pipe to totally fail (but they do) apart from cracks around the cat. I had my cat replaced with a straight stainless pipe for £100 then put a Dansk SS rear box on for £160 about 4 years ago, but price has gone up since. |

Sorry guys, can anyone post a link to the deals discussed? I'll be looking for a decent system from CAT backwards on my s2 (replaced CAT 3 years ago after more than one seem repair). Some of the sites are difficult to navigate but found on Design911 the centre box for £265 (?made by whom) and rear box £199 (Dansk). Is this what I'd expect to pay? Cheers |

If it's your daily drive, u may not want a stainless one due 2 the increase noise. Indont think mine goes down 2 well with some off my nanbours. One car if I park anywhere near it, I set the alarm off! If u start the car early in the morring 4 work, and like 2 give it a minute 2 warm up clear windows e.c.t? I didn't go 4 a boy racer type. But a 3ltr pur in down a stainless exshust MIT not be what u want? There's some custom ones, with lifetime warreny. Like mine, cost about 300-400 can't rember off the top off my head, don't like 2 add things up, it's depressing! Lol |

If you've not done anything much in 30K miles there are some big bills in the pipeline. Thats the way these cars are. Last year mine needed nothing. Past it's mot no problems. 1 month later it needs a gearbox rebuild a new clutch etc. Spend loads & it's off again for awhile. Trouble is when the bills come they will be more than the value of the car! Dansk is the cheap option. Not from Porsche shop though. Bert Gear or JMG. No more power but good value. (Stainless.) |
