Hello All My interior lights (roof light between sun visors, and boot light) are not working - I've checked the fuse, which is fine and the elements on the bulbs themselves are intact. All other lights on the dash etc. work fine. Not such a big deal, but, what with the nights drawing in would be nice to get them working. Any ideas please? Thanks Mark |

Buy a cheap multi meter & check if you have power. Then you will know if it's the switch on the fitting or the wiring & can start to trace it back. |

Check the wire connected to the top of the right hand hatch strut. Continual flexing as the hatch opens and shuts eventually breaks it. When the wire on the left hand hatch goes the same way, the HRW stops working. HTH, |

I had the same problem with my interior lights when I first got the car. Neither were working. It was a combination of three things, so may be worth checking all three. As already posted, if the rear hatch strut dampers have been changed as mine had been, the switch on the right hand one may not be adjusted correctly, simply not connected or split from wear and tear. Check the wires on the back of the light(s). The one in the boot of mine was disconnected because (I think) the previous owner had taken the side carpet off to fiddle with the sunroof motor and hadn't reconnected them. The front one wasn't working as the spades behind the door pin switch were full of crud. The pins are held in with one screw and pull out easily. They may just need a careful sanding to make good the connection again. That sorted both lights for me. |

Jim Many thanks for that - that sounds like it could well be the answer. Will check the condition of the wire when I get home. Cheers Mark |

Were they working previously? Are the switches in the correct position? Is it the same when you open any door or the hatch? Some answers and it will be easier to help - it won't be that difficult to find the problem. |

I know this is an old thread but I have a similar problem only on the passenger door, i.e. The interior light doesn't come on. I'll take a look at the door switch. The other issue I have is the clear plastic cover for the interior light has become brittle and won't stay in place. Any idea where I can get a spare? DC |

I've got the same problem and also the glove box light too. Corrosion on the cabin light terminals and the boot light is in bits. Can't get to the glove box light for the moment as I buggered my back the day after I got the car ![]() Thanks for the tip on the VW fitting being the same, going to order two. |

Would someone be kind enough to post up the ratings stamped on the end cap of the interior or boot light lamps. I left my broken one at the spares counter opf the local motor factors when I picked up the replacements & having opened up the boxes, the lamps are physically the wrong size! |
