hey all

Im going to change the gearbox oil and reading around theres a lot of recommendations for swepco but at £56 it seems a bit steep and for a 2.5 N/A possibly a bit overkill. Planning on doing this every 2 years so is there anything ECP sell that will do the job well? or should I stop being a cheapskate and get the swepco?

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Porsc ... ission-Oil

thats the list ECP comes up with. Any to recommend from there or any other suggestions? I'm wary of buying brands when most the stuff is the same oil in a different bottle, or do you really get what you pay for?

cheers

Rick

Any modern semi synthetic should do the job. Swepco was good years ago when cars were running on cooking oil! I had Swepco in mine. Changed the oil awhile back & couldn't tell the difference. My new box will just get stock modern semi synthetic in it along with a few new bearings.

edit. If your box is good (quiet etc) then you should change the output bearings on the diff'. There available from Lindsey racing for less than £10 each. These are the ones that go & kill the gearbox. Just replace the shims as they came off as the tolerances on bearings are so tight theres no need to re shim the diff' . Should last for years then. Good boxes are hard to find!

Don't forget to check that you can undo the filler cap before you drain the old oil out

Got Swepco in mine but agree the price is getting silly. Personally I'd go Castrol SMX or Redline both have worked well for me in the past in transaxle type boxes.
DO NOT use a GL5 spec oil it may damage the brass based bushes in the box, use GL4.

thanks for the replies, think i'll try opie for some GL4 SMX. dont think it needs anything else as its fairly quiet and only has 74k on the clock.

Went with speco, but at 50 pound or so, can't say it's worked wonders. May prolong the life. Hasn't really changed sound wise.
