Hey guys,

I really need your help. I was out in the car at the weekend or a long run. Car ran absolutely fine until after dinner when I tried to come home. The car started ok but had a bit of a lumpy tickover. Car also struggled to pull away. Finaly got it home and investigated. Found it to be a misfire.l

Replaced the coil and plug leads thinking I had it knocked off but hey it seems not. It seems to be firing ok on cylinders 1 and 4 but when I removed pugs in 2 and 3 they were soaked in fuel. Cleaned them up and refitted but still the same. The only thing I can think of is faulty distributor cap or sensor somewhere else has gone. Has anyone had anything similar. Coolant level also ok so don't think the head gasket has gone.

Please help

Craig

Hi Craig :)

From my experience as a mechanic, the MOST common reason for a missfire is the cheap bits....not head gaskets etc....

So...CHANGE all 4 plugs for Ngks preferably

CHANGE the dizzy cap

CHANGE the rotor arm....

Please note I didn't say "check" I said change lol :)

Then try it again....

All the best Brett :)

Thanks Brett, cap and rotor was my next move. In my panic I started thinking hall sensors and ECU's because 2 and 3 fire at opposite times and prob over analysed it a bit.

I'll let you know how I go. Getting the parts on Friday so watch this space.

Cheers Craig

Check the firing order! & the screw in the rotor arm. Is it still there?

Ok here's the latest on the misfire. New plugs, leads, coil, cap and rotor. Misfire still there :-(. Checked it out yesterday and found that if I unplugged 1 of the 2 crank sensors the misfire clears. However when turned off it won't start whilst it is unplugged. Can any one help me source the sensor? It's the one nearest the engine if that makes sense.

Cheers Craig.
