I'm having the chain and sliper pad replaced. 116000, was last done at 65000 can't remember if the tensouner was replaced or not. But the chain has marked the inside off the cover. Not sure if these marks were sense the 1st change or the reson 4 the 1st change. I have got another cover unmarked just waiting painting before fitting.

Basicly a new tensouner is about 300 pounds. The mercanic was under the impression I was replacing the tensouner as well. Is the marks more likely due 2 a faulty tensoner then a streched chain? A chain would have 2 stretch a lot in 55000 miles 2 mark the inside off the cover.

Thanks guys

Terry you don't change the tensioner just the pads which are around £20 or so.

Thanks, so the marks on the inside off the cover is from chain streach. Is this comman over 55000 miles? As for pads only the top sliper is avzblie as a replacement. The lower pad only comes with a tensoner. Iv got 2 tensoners the one on the car, with the stretch chain and another off eBay but will need the nibble swap as it was broke. Which would you sirguesst putting on?

Just checked the service history, had a new chain and tensouner in 06/02/99 at 65000 miles I had the tensouner changed 4 one I brought off eBay when I got my turbo front end. For £25 pounds with a chain. ( I used a new chain ) And it's stoped the tapping tinny sound. The car had sirposable had a new chain fitted b4 I brought it. And it sounded silghtly tinny then, but has got worse. So the tensioners must wear out. I can't see why one would be changed from new at 65000 miles and again 55000 miles later? Maybe a chain was never fitted, by the mercanic who owned the car b4 me like said. But the pet diagrams are in the history folder? Looks like they were used.

I'm sure you can get top & bottom pads. Try andy at promax, I'm sure he supplies them both.

Iv already had the work done now, bert at Breyin got me the top slipper in from Porsche. As they don't stock them. I asked about the lower pad. This is fitted with 2 small screws. So I would asumed it's changeable. There was a time when u couldn't buy the top sliper on it own. Maybe this is y my tensoner was changed at 65000?
