Is it recommended to swap out the factory air filter for an after market one?
Not sure there would any worth wile gains as the air filter is pretty large.
Does any one have experience of doing this, what parts did they use and if possible can I see some pics

I have a K+N filter in my 944S2. It is just a straight swap, claims a few extra bhp and is also washable. I think the S2 and 968 are the same, with the filter in the nose of the car under the badge panel.

Edit: After just looking at a picture I see the 968 filter is in the same place but not actually under the badge panel.

Here is a K&N filter on eBay

Another S2 owner told me that he had replaced the air filter box under the badge panel with a cone filter and it had worked ok. Other 944s have the air filter in the engine bay rather than the nose. From what I have read, if they use a cone filter they are drawing in hot air.

You can always go for the "airbox mod" - drilling 4 x holes in the front panel of the airbox.

To be honest, I don't really notice a difference in the power, but the noise is definitely better - a real growl on full bore acceleration!
