Post subject: | More leaks help, please |
Hello All Following a few torrential downpours, a couple of episodes of sodden rear footwells and after some investigations I carried out myself I felt I had traced the problem to a perished outer sunroof seal. Autowerke here in Norwich kindly replaced the outer sunroof seal for me last week and I felt confident the problem had been dealt with. Another heavy downpour last night and yet again serious amounts of water in the footwells. Did a couple of water tests here at home pouring water over the car and then looking for any tell tale signs of ingress. Sunroof seems fine as as does the tailgate seal. I can't work out where the water is coming in from. Any ideas, please. Many thanks Mark |

I had water in the passenger footwell, but only when I park on a certention side off the road. Turned out 2 be windscreen. Rather then have the old one refitted. I had an fournt adented. And replaced the whole wind screen on my insurance. £60 4 a shiner new windscreen which was 400 other wise. |

Also feel about the side wall carpet and see if that help trace it. Also the fuse box is above the passengers foot well. As the windscreen runs off in 2 the top area I would check around there. Water tests. Try the car moving and still. As the air could be pushing it in from somewhere not detected while the car is still. |

I.ve had water coming in to two Mondeos I've owned. As the hatch has silmilar points you could check those. The boots on the mondeos used to fill up with water. Seals around rear lights leaked - cured with rubber sealent. Where the rear wiper passes thru the body or glass... Other places on the Porsche will be around the doors (maybe at the bottom) The rear side window rubbers Somewhere around the hatch. Is it wet under the boot carpet? Does the water come in when you are driving or when the car is just standing? |

Not sure of the model you have but check under the dashboard behind the glovebox where the heater motor fixes to the bulkhead water can leak in through there either through the seal where it fits to the bodywork on early cars or if someone has left a screw out that holds the heater assembly underneath the plastic shroud at the rear of the engine bay. My S2 had a screw missing from the rear of this housing and when the water got in behind the rear bulkhead (in the engine bay) and was held in place by piles of leaves and debris it flooded into the screw hole and directly behind the front passenger carpet then ran along underneath the carpet to wet the rear footwell. |

Many thanks for all your comments. I had a re-check this morning and the seal on the leading edge of the door aperture had come away slightly and the seal on the door itself had popped out of its retaining channel. This could well explain why the footwall by the driver's foot was very damp and I'm guessing water ran down here and along to the passenger footwell. I've relocated the aperture and door seals and hopefully this will have some positive effect. I'll also carry out all of the other checks which have been mentioned. Thanks again Mark |
