Rather than trying to reinvent the wheel by trial and error, I thought I'd ask first ![]() I've finally got around to making a start on getting my black '88 924S Le Mans back on the road. I bought it with teeth stripped off the cam belt and have already had the cylinder head refurbed by a specialist so I'm aiming to have the rest of the top of the engine in tip top condition as well. To this end I want to refurb the grotty 8 valve cam cover - what's the best way to get gleaming, or at least shinier than it is now? |

Stick it through a parts washer first if possible. Then I cleaned mine with wire wool & degrease. Finally polish the letters with finer & finer grades of wet & dry before polishing with Ali polish for a mirror shine. You will need new gaskets. Cometic cam box gasket from Lindsey racing/Promax is a lot more leak proof & can be reused. Simples. Hard on the fingers though. Be careful not to damage the face when polishing. Very careful. |
