Now I've finally managed to rebuild most of the collection of bits in the boot of my 944 including the correct jack, spare wheel clamp and jack handle I've noticed something.

The jack handle is held behind the spare wheel by the middle part but the lower part is free to swing about and has the potential to form an annoying clunk in the spare wheel well when driving about.

What I was wondering is if anybody knew a place to obtain some nice chunky strips of foam that would be able to cushion any potential clunks and thuds? I guess one option would be to get an old sponge or something, cut a bit off and use spray adhesive to mount it but the OCD side of me wants a neater solution, preferably using black foam due to the blackness of the wheel well.

Am I just taking things a bit too far considering the rest of the car lies in pieces and I should really get on with sorting that out or is there a nice simple neat solution?

I used rubber strips to go behind the handle ends and find this works ok.

You can get some big chunky foam pipe lagging in black from BQ. Split it down the middle. Quiet cheap as well.

Hi :)

On my 928 I removed the 15 inch spacesaver spare as not much use when I run on 18 inch wheels now...

I bought the tyre gunk in a black bottle (genuine Porsche) and a proper Porsche compressor (it was missing when i bought mine)

So i needed some foam to mount the compressor . tyre gunk and a first aid kit ..into the same hole the spare used to be....

I measured it , both width and depth and went to a "cushion/foam shop" where I was appalled to pay just under £40 for the best quality stuff....having said that it cut well and has been long lasting...

All the best Brett :)

Nice brett. Think I MIT follow ur lead on this, took my tire wield out last week as I was getting a bit tired off it rattling about in the rear foot well. Some pictures would be good.

Hi :)

I will take a couple of pics on Sunday but basically its a huge bit of blue foam that i cut to size and has cut outs for tyre weld plus compressor plus first aid kit...

The trick when buying it is to make sure the bit you buy is DEEP enough to reach the bottom of the hole but also to reach the top to support the carpet etc...

All the best Brett :)

This was what I had in mind 2 fill the whole hole. There's currently nothing there and the carpet don't look saggy.
