I have had my Lux for 4 years now and come close on a couple of occasions to changing to a1.boxter and 2.cab.
I have decided that I like my Lux too much to consider changing it.
Why do I love it so much?

1.easy enough to work on.
2.still a good looking car and drives well.
3.a classic without all the electrical add ons to go wrong.
4.puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
5.affordable to run with insurance, parts etc.
6.fantastic forum with like minded friendly people.
7.readily available advice.
8.meets and shows always great to go to.

Just some to start off so what is it that you like so much about your 944?

The faces on the chavs in there hatchbacks with 6"bore exhaust and thumping stereo when they're a couple of inches from your rear bumper and then I leave them far far behind

Seriously, agree with all the above except for no.1 and no.3 and no.5(the parts bit) otherwise it's brilliant and anyway the involvement of the driving experience out weighs any of the other pains incurred.

Agree with the above, cost of servicing and spares a little hefty, leccy niggles now due to age of car, but the grin factor outways these problems, and the view from the back of those hips !!!

I prefer the shape of the 944 over the 911 etc. To my eye, they look more like the image I asscociate with a sports car.

...but I also like the 924 body and the feel of extra space in the cab. Been considering exchanging my s2 for a very low mileage 924 I've found locally. Service bills are no more than a mondeo would cost. Pity I don't have storage space for both.

pop up heaslights :D :D :D

Although I ended up with the Boxster, I still sort of regret not going for a 944, maybe next time :D

The wheel arch when viewed through the door mirror, it is soooooo sexy :)

Plus the fact that it suprisingly capable for (what is now) an old car :)

Are the people who are disagreeing on the fact they're easy to work on with relatively cheap parts non lux owners by chance? ;)

I can't comment on the driving aspects for obvious reasons but since I've owned it for a couple of years I'll give it a go

Still looks good and popup headlights will always be cool
Who doesn't love box arches?
The look on a person's face when I tell them I have a Porsche followed by the look on their face when I tell them it was free!
The way people that have no experience of the 944 try and inform you that it was a poor man's Porsche. It may have been cheap but it's still a cracking car :D
Easy to work on, they must be if I've managed to rebuild most of this one single handedly so far
The decent community following these cars

Hopefully by the end of the year I'll finally be able to comment on how it drives. Oddly enough I've never even been for a ride in anybody elses 944 either.

agree with all the above especially parts, but mine s alux too, maybe theres a pattern here?

Best thing about a 944 is there are very few cars that are even close to as kool as this, itsstunning to look at even now and no matter where you park it, it looks great :-) theres aklso soemthing i can't really put my finger on, but when me and the misses goes out for the day, theres soemthing special about zipping around country lanes or around the uk in this car, just gives you an indescribable feeling that other boring cars can't do :-)

HI All

I'll add my small views here as a new owner to 944s after 15 years or so with VW Sciroccos (interspersed with the odd Honda).

1.easy enough to work on. - yes - spent 7 months restoring mine to roadworthy condition, parts not too bad or hard to locate. But body surprisingly prone to rusting.
2.still a good looking car and drives well. - yep - I like the lithe 924 shape, but the 944 has some much more presence. To my eyes, its the delinquent child in the triplet 924,944,968. Very firm and planted on the road and much more involving for me, than say the CRX I had several years ago
3.a classic without all the electrical add ons to go wrong.yes and no - I had to do alot of electrical work on mine as it had been stood for 5 years, but most things have been revived (bar the sunroof :x , rear wiper :x and some interior light switches!)
4.puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. yes - still gets comments from passers by and kids. Only my matra drew more comments. I rarely see them now on the road adding some exclusivity)
5.affordable to run with insurance, parts etc.so far so good....
6.fantastic forum with like minded friendly people..so far so good....!
7.readily available advice.
8.meets and shows always great to go to. not had chance really to enjoy this aspect of ownership

I also like it, as its easier to spot in my works car park(!)& offers surprisingly useful space for its shape and target market. My other half doesn;t like it - which I think is another reason to like it!

I think it comes down to looks for me.

I've had a few nice cars over the years but very few have the x factor. The 944 can put a smile on your face before you even turn the key. ( unfortunately all I can do is sit in mine at the moment as it still won't start. :(

The other car that did this for me was my Datsun 240z Super Samuri, a truly mad but wonderful car to own and drive. I wish I'd kept it, theyre fetching a small fortune these days ! :D

My S2 Cab has been bl**dy expensive for parts, repairs and maintenance since I got it and a helluva lot more than my 8v Lux but I'm going to be selling the Lux so I suppose that indicates which one I prefer :D

So good that i bought 2 !
Love the coke bottle shape, the engineering that has gone into them considering the age, build quality and the way they feel when you drive them.
Also the ability to turn the Turbo into a monster for not a lot of money, i don't bother showing the chavs up in their Saxo's and the like.
Love showing modern performance cars a clean pair of heels though, you can imagine them thinking an old Porsche won't be very quick, hit the warp pedal though and they become a dot.
Shouldn't do it really, but,.............. well you know !
Would love a very nice early lux for the collection.

Complete package. Not fast by todays standards (250 hp is nothing compared to many Scoobys) but fun. Big fun. Electrical problems. What are those??? Daily drive & you don't have any. It always starts!!

Very nice to drive, built for fun! Also very good to look at and yes I too like looking at the rear wheelarches in the mirrors!Very practical too,me and the missus have used the car for holidays quite a few times and plenty room for everything. As for the Corsa/Clio kids you just feel sorry for them having to drive around in their heap of crap while you are driving your lovely old 944.I had a ride in a 944 some years before I bought mine so knew it was what I wanted but I have to admit I didnt realise just how good they were and since I had new dampers on this year its better still.I still look in the mags and wonder about a swap but to be honest Ive already got exactly what I want! :D :D :D
