Where is the fuel pump on a 1985 oval dash 2.5 944?
Thought it was in the same place as a 924 but it seems not.

If its the same as the earlier 44 its right next to the tank.

I thought it should be next to the fuel tank, changed one on my 924, but the fuel pipe comes out of the tank into the filter and then onwards to the engine, no sign of the pump.

If it's the same as the later 944 at the bottom of the tank is a metal cover, held in place by a long strip of steel held by a single bolt on the floor pan near the O/S rear wheel. In theory you can remove the cover over the pump but the self tappers were long ago rusted & I doubt if they'd move! The pump is clamped to the metal cover & has a short pipe from the tank to the pump & then the output of the pump is the pipe you're seeing.

Found it, its getting increasingly noisy thought it best to replace it before it fails, now to find a reasonably priced replacement.
Many thanks for assistance

A noisy pump isn't necessaarily the pump, their is a filter in the bottom of the tank which can get blocked. If the pump has to work it's nuts off to suck fuel then it will go noisy as it'll cavitate. The filter can be unscrewed carefully after draining the tank to get at it & clean it.
