Hello All.
I have found over the last few months when driving my car in traffic that when hot I get clutch judder when I pull off and found its a lot worse on a hill. I am thinking of changing the clutch assembly myself at home? Is this possible or should I leave it to the experts. If it is possible to tackle this at home where can I find information giving step by step instructions of the operations needed to be carried out and any special tools that may be required.

At £464 Frazerpart is already £200 cheaper than ECP's standard price. I will of course ask ECP to match the price.

Certainly do-able. Drop the gbox, remove exhaust system pull the torque tube back to get access to the clutch housing. Biggest problem I found was undoing the bolts on the clutch housung. As Richy_S says, it is do-able as me and my father in law did mine on my 44S but be warned it is a long and at times very frustrating job Basically whatever time you reckon it will take times it by three! Note: the term "me" contained in the sentence "me and my father in law" is to be taken with a pinch of salt.

My usual brag - the clutch has lasted 202000 miles so far, but I am going to change it now as it is causing a vibration at 1600 +/- 100 and 3200 +/- 100 or so. It has been proven to be the clutch causing the vibration. Also, more importantly, I want to take my wife to Paris in it for her 50th in January and wouldn't want the clutch to decide to pack in like it did on my 1989 Red 2.7 Lux shortly after getting it. I had it replaced at a cost of £700 at Hartech - and that was early 1999. It has always juddered when hot, and I learned that the best way to prolong having to lay out for a new clutch is to put the car in neutral every time I stop moving - for example at traffic lights etc, never sit there with the clutch pedal depressed, never 'drop' the clutch, always drive the car carefully and feed the clutch in gently. This has worked well for me. Four years and 50000 miles ago I gave my car to my mechanic friend whilst I went on holiday and asked him to change the clutch. I came back and he hadn't done it because "it's not broken". He was obviously right! The clutch system at ECP is £624, but I can have it for £530. I have today found this on Ebay at £502 delivered. Good call Richard, £490 including VAT, but do they charge for postage? Maybe somebody who is registered with them can check it out by going on-line and 'pretending' to buy one. I got stopped after I'd put the item in a cart. At the end of the day £10 saving is £10 saving.

So is it bad 2 sit in traffic with the clutch in and in 1st? Iv also pull my clutch in instead off braking, like planing ahead, when I no I'm Going 2 need 2 slow down. E.g if the car in front is slowing down 2 make a turn.

Not wanting to cast anu doubts on ECP but I had my clutch replaced due to bad juddering especially when hot and it all pointed to the rubber doughnut in the original clutch being knackered, like I said I bought my replacement from Frazerpart and imagine my surprise when my mechanic told me the clutch was not the original rubber doughnut type but a standard spring unit similar to what I had bought, when I checked the cars history file I found receipts from ECP for a clutch kit bearings, seals and lots of other parts less that 10k (2 years) miles previous. My mechanic said there was no real wear or contamination on the clutch but perhaps the springs were not up to the job, anyway swopped for the one I had just bought and never had a problem since. Not saying the ECP unit was faulty probably more down to who installed the unit as I could only find invoices for the parts and not the installation. But made me think in anycase.

Today's the day I buy the clutch. I'm taking the car over to Stewart's http://autotech-garage.co.uk/ on Monday afternoon so that he can get an early start on it on Tuesday. If it's not raining I'll cycle back as it's only 28 miles. At the moment Frazerpart are cheapest of anybody for the same Sachs clutch kit at £478 including postage. Can anybody confirm if they give TIPEC discount? I've e-mailed them to ask but thought I'd check on here as well. Thank you.

I asked Max at Frazerpart about discount and he said the unit was so cheap he could not give any further discount and he was a lot cheaper than anywhere else (£450 at the time) so I went with that one and it arrived the next day at the garage doing the work.
