Hi guys newbie here first posting hoping for some help. Just got the 944 & started trying to do a few cheap jobs before the big winter attack on the engine ect. Managed to get both electric windows up & running fairly well, stripped out the actuators cleaned everything up, lubricated & refitted working ok RESULT. Flushed with sucsess decided to tackle the driver mirror, goes up, goes out will not go down or in. Passenger side works fine spent the best part of a day with no joy. Gave up decided to start tracking down wiring for speakers to install stereo. Speaker wires for door seem to leave centre consol but a quick test with the meter says they never make it to the door, same colours but no continuity! Now the point of my post I think I have lost a feed to the drivers mirror should be live but only get 12v when I move mirror switch & I have no connection to the door speakers. Could this be connected. It says in the manual there is a connector for the drivers & passenger door could this be loose or broken? if so where do I find it? All help gratefully received. |

I'm assuming you have an oval dash car. I couldn't get a reading with a multimeter from the headunit to the speaker on mine either. Turning the stereo on however confirms that it works so I'm not sure if there's a hidden amplifier in there or something. With the mirror it could be a broken wire where the loom goes through the a-pillar into the door. If it is the mirror I have a spare drivers mirror in white if that's any use to you? |

My speaker leads have a capacitor in series with them so you wouldn't get continuty. Also found an amp by the ECU which although disconnected could screw things up if still there. Mirror wiring can be a pain. Worth downloading the manual from either Rick Cannells site or Promaxs. |

Thanks guys, I will check out the stereo wiring when my new stereo arrives by hooking it up & seeing what happens. If it arrives (still waiting after 2 weeks ,got to love Ebay) I think the mirror it's self is ok, I removed it from the car & by swapping the polarity of the leads over on a battery it goes in all directions. Looks like the search for the broken wire continues. Unless anyone else has any ideas! Thanks for the help you guys are great. Everyone seems keen to help. |

I agree with the above, sounds like a wire break in the loom where the door hinges. Ben |

All help gratefully received. the mirror motors are fed like a 2x way lighting circuit in the house. The supply is simply reversed inside the switches. Sounds to me like the switch contacts are worn out or corroded. Try taking the switches apart and cleaning the contacts etc. Watch out for all the little bits that always fly out all over the place .! ![]() If you get a chance to look at the mirror motor drives themselves they are a little marvel. I used some to drive animatronics years ago when we used to supply interactives to Museums |
