Post subject:  Hit & run, advice please....
Someone has driven into my 944 and scarpered, leaving no name or address or anything. They've clouted the offside rear corner, denting and scraping the quarter panel, cracking the light glass, denting the rear panel (the bit with porsche on it), and denting the bumper panel and knocking the whole bumper panel sideways about an inch. The quarter panel looks worse, there is a dent up by the hatch, and a nasty crease by the light, as well as flaking paint.

Can someone advise me on my options/cost? I've reported it to the police which was pretty pointless, tbh - it just looks like it is going to cost a fortune no matter what.

In the past two months the wing mirror's been twatted and someone's nicked the badge off the front, scratching the paint in the process. Now someone's driven into it. All while it's been parked.

My pride and joy, which took months to find was worth a couple of grand now appears to be worth the price of the wheels.

Any advice welcome. :cry:

Really feel for you. Can't offer much in the way of advise because I have not been through it my self (thankfully), but I know of a work mate who went through something similar and she had months of aggro.

You could revisit the area and see if there are any local businesses etc which have CCTV and see if you can trace the scum that did it. Leave posters up on lampposts to see if anyone will come forward as a witness....

Chances are they were not insured, so this will leave you to claim off your own insurance. At minimum, it will cost you your excess and next years no claims.

Unfortunately, it's not worth having anything decent any more and maybe we should all be driving round in £500 bangers.

Welcome to the joys of Porsche ownership. I doubt there is a single owner that hasn't gone through exactly the same thing themselves so you are in good company.

Reporting it to the Police was not wasted as you now have a 'Crime Report Number ' which you can give to your insurers to prove it was a hit and run accident.
I would just bite the bullet and get the work done on your insurance. Its important to move on and not get bitter and twisted about it. It will doubtless happen again.
I would advise you to get a couple of quotes from local bodyshops so that when your insurers suggest the cost of the repairs make your car a write off you can argue that it is viable with your own quotes.

Eventually you just learn that it is not worth parking in between cars at car parks and try to park away from other cars or take up two spaces to leave adequate room. I also make sure my bonnet is never parked behind another car because drivers are unable to see our low bonnets out there rear view. I've heard some owners even take a picture of the cars behind and infront when they park just in case .

I'm with Peanut! Sorry to here of your problems. Didn't you just spend loads on a new clutch? Mines been driven into 3 times now. Twice by my boss. (He says by accident!) & more recently when parked in town somebody reversed into it & broke my front bumper & bent the iron. Very minor the last one. Will probably just replace the iron & leave the bumper until it gets a bit more damage! First two would have been right offs if left to the insurance but I found a good body shop who did the job for so little it wasn't worth claiming. Hawk the car around the body shops with a good reputation & tell em it's not on insurance what can they do. Hope it's not too bad. Rear transfer you can get from Rick Cannells site.

Sorry to hear of your woes, I had a mondeo a few years ago and parked it in a supermarket car park, on returning I could see the car moving, and an ancient metro reversing along the side of it, the car repositioned itself in the space and an elderly chap got out locked the metro and went to walk away, when I approached him he denied hitting my car, and even when I showed him the damage to both his and my car, complete with his colour paint scuffed down my car he still denied it, it was only when I got my phone out and went to call the police that he concluded that it might have been him, passenger door skin and passenger side blow over, metallic blue so not cheap, going back to yours, check for any CCTV or nosey neighbours in the immediate area, otherwise its an insurance claim I'm afraid

This is the problem of having a Porsche that is stuck with a low value: Body repairs cost more than the car's worth = write off value payout.

When the car cost 30k or whatever, body work is repaired. Nerve racking leaving the car anywhere unatteneded. Sorry to read of what's happened to your car.

Dunno if there is some policy to insure against this situation.... guess you can buy anything if you pay enough...

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your car getting hit - there's some real f*#king scum out there!!! I feel for you.

Pretty sound advise really from everyone. Where did it happen? Public car park, on the street? I have always parked in a corner of the car park out of the way. It is frustrating when these things happen.

Mind you, you're not always safest in the corner of the car park. I took a corner space next to a grass verge on the same day the gardeners were there. To cut a long story short, they strimmed a load of grass, soil and stones down the side of my 944. I had only cleaned the car a few days before so was unimpressed to say the least. After photographing the car and washing it off, there were a number of stone chips down the side of the car. I had a 9 month battle with the gardeners who caused the damage and I eventually won, although they wouldn't admit liability because it was in a public car park etc etc. But it was still a result and I got the car sorted on their buck.

I wouldn't hold out to much hope on CCTV though. A woman's car got hit recently in a public car park at a supermarket. On returning to her car she noticed the damage. She went to the security desk to find out if the incident had been captured on CCTV. It had but the security guards would not issue the woman the licence plate of the other vehicle involved because it would have been breaking data protection!!!
