I have a 1988 S and is due new pads and disc all round soon, mainly front. It seems like it's gona cost about 200 and upwards 4 the front. It's looks possible 2 get some thing from eBay 4 similar money In a few years when it's not my daily drive, think off a engine swap, so why not upgrade now. From what I understand some form off bracets are required 2 change from 2 pot too 4 pot. |

??????? Discs not too expensive. Sebro from JMG./GSF (Club discount.) I fit Unipart pads as there £15 an axle & replace them every other year. You will need a new set if you do a track day as they cook but for that price whats the problem. They work. Unless your car has put on weight the stock setup should be fine. They were good enough for the 911 turbo. Put 4 new discs & Goodrich lines on mine for peanuts not so long since. ![]() |

You know ur stuff jj, but I don't understand why there so much bigger know if they don't profom better, 944 turbo had better brakes, 0-60-0 in ten secs I think I read somewere, disc seem 2 be upwards of 60/70 a corner. Also must abit it's the looks as well ![]() |

911 turbo had 2 pot calipers did it? I think your best bet would be to find some S2 hubs/steering knuckles then you could fit S2/early turbo/968 calipers and discs all of which can be found at a reasonable price. Next step could be an M030 set up which would require adapter brackets. Rich |

So would 996 part number, not work? There's these on eBay listed under vw golf mk4 Porsche front brakes. |

Loads of turbo & S2 4 pot brakes about but the discs will cost a bit more! They are better but for road use the stock brakes are pretty decent. Alasdair (Sulzurek) may have a pair with discs from the turbo he is breaking. |

Mine has S2 all round. Only done because they were silly cheap & my single pots were knackered. My comment don't do it unless you need to! The 4 pots suffer plate lift which is expensive to cure & can come back. And bits generally are more expensive. The single pots are fantastic if in good nick & if you're driving hard enough ON THE ROAD to need better brakes then I suspect you & you're licence will be parted by the local constabulary shortly. |

Like I said at the start off the post, my idea goal is 2 swap out the engine in a few years, when it's no longer a daily drive, and more a toy. See as it's looking 2 cost about 200 4 the front anyway, an upgrade now MIT be money well spent, and the chance 2 stop shorter and quicker can never be abad thing. Would really fancy been a few feet short and end up with front end damage. |

After my trip to Porch-apart this morning I'd say a set of 996/Boxster Calipers is a good upgrade if you don't have M030 hubs. A set of adapter brackets like the ones for big reds/blacks should get them fitted pretty easily. The Boxster S and 996 Carrera 2 calipers had the same bolt centres as my M030 calipers but you could only use 28mm wide discs. The Carrera 4S/GT3/Turbo calipers looked the same but the bolt centres were 10mm bigger and you could use a 32mm wide disc in them. But if you're getting adapters then you can just buy the ones for the calipers you get. We talked about brake alot this morning and another thing that is going to be difficult is finding brake discs that will fit your choice of caliper, although it was mentioned about getting 2 piece disc from someone like Compbrake. Also the size of the pistons has to be considered, because alot more piston area than you currently have will cause alot more pedal travel, alot less and you'll be hitting you head on the steering wheel all the time. Sorry I don't have any answers about what the best set up is for you but the 996/Boxster caliper design is much better than the 944 and there will never be any problems with plate lift, so if you can it's got to be worth upgrading in my opinion. |

Thanks, sorry 2 hear you not found anything 2 fit your needs, can you try other car brands that use bremo callipers? So the bolt pattern is different 4 boxster and boxster S so the backets won't work 4 both? Disc thickness this will govern the pedal travel? So would I need 2 find a disc thickness that would match the pedal travel not the disc 4 the cailper? |

Unfortunately the calipers porsche use are the same calipers other manufacturers use so I'm likey to find the same problems. A friend suggest redrilling the caliper or hub but I really don't think that is a good idea. The disk thickness won't have any effect of pedal travel. Once you've moved the pads next to the disk they will only move back from the surface a very small amount. The largers the pistons the more fluid you have to fill them with to move then the same amount so the further you have to push the pedal. Maybe a bigger master cylinder to go with the calipers is worth thinking about. |

Yeah I wondered that. Would this be a simple thing 2 fit? Think I'm going 2 try boxster brakes. Are they better or worse in power terms 2 944 turbo S and s2? |

You might not need to but it is worth having a look at. They are easy to fit if they will bolt up to the servo. I don't know if the turbo or M030 master cylinders are bigger, but I think cars with ABS are different. You'd have to check out the pad size to see which will give you more stopping power and it depends on the diameter of disc you use too. However having seen the Boxster S calipers they are a much better design, don't have any plates and probably most important are going to be 10 years younger. In my opinion the M030 calipers or big reds are going to be more powerful, bigger pads and you can use a thicker disc to help cooling. I think they wouldn't be any more expensive second hand, but may need to be refurbed. |

Ok, so it's the m030 hubs that's is limiting your choce, but cause are need brackets 2 2 change from radial 2 vertical, the bracket can be made 2 suit? Still un clear as 2 wether boxster and boxster S will use the same adaptor from Porsche shop. |

Post subject: | Re: Brake upgrade, what other Porsche brakes fit? |
That's just it. The radial mounts on my hubs stop me getting the 996 4S calipers on and the width of the disc stops me getting the Boxster S calipers on. I'm not sure about the 2.5 Boxster but the Boxster S calipers had the same bolt centres as my M030 calipers so the adapters should get them on your car, it's just which discs you'll be able to fit. Best to ask someone like Porsche Shop as to which discs they recommend with their Boxster adapters. |
