Lovely colour, sorry i do not know the car but if you are going to look check the sills, check the sills, and check the sills, also find out if it has had the aux camchain tensioner slipper pad renewed, not a service item but they wear out and can lead to lots of engine damage.
Cheers Jim.

If it looks ok get an engineers report on it. Could save you ££££'s Rot free 944's are a rare find & the rot isn't obvious unless you know where to look. Make sure they check the cam sprockets & chains. It seems a bit expensive but then the prestige market appears to be recovering now. You need a 1.5K contingency fund even if it's a good one to cover what you can't see. With that mileage it may not have been in regular use which could mean electrical problems. Like that colour myself. :)

cheers guys, i've asked about rot, if there ever has been and repaired or if there is any present.
if i get favourable answers back, i'll arrange a viewing and take a specialist with me :)

Looks good and nice colour but as mentioned previously check service history for belts, water pump, cam chain/sprocket and clutch, also rust in lower front wings and sills, this can/will be very expensive to repair

update:-

just phoned the guy, and its had the belts and w/pump done 10k ago. its all documented, and has had new dampers all round in the last year, and replacement sills done 4 weeks ago. it hasnt had the aux camchain tensioner slipper pad renewed in the 3 years he had it, but said there is no noise. is this worth replacing tho? and what does it cost? its also had new discs and pads (rear and front) and anti roll bar bushes. its now totally rust free & he's sending me a mail with all the work done so i'll post it here and if you would be so kind, could you tell me if it looks a good gen car.

i've arranged to view it on sun next week so i'll takre it for a spin.

as i dont know 'owt about 944's, is anything else to look out for??

cheers guys,

Al.

When were the belts done? Needs to be done every 4 years if the car is not doing a high mileage.

the belts were done 12 months ago.

Looks like a good one to me mate  I d have bought it by now!! :) Lets face it,buying an old car like all these 944s are now,you will find something wrong with all of them but that one seems to have had the expensive jobs taken care of,sills belts, water pump etc. Like JJ says, you should budget on having to spend something on any car.If its not smoking and its not leaking and it drives ok,Im sure it will be! :)

no smoke at all apparently, not when cold on start up nor when driving, so thats good to know!!
oil pressure 5 bar at start up, and settles to 4 bar when warm, so good oil pressure (i think!!)

it looks a lovely example, i'm crossing my fingers and toes its a good un too, beautiful colour, but just showed the wife the car, and she says she doesnt like the colour "maroon!???"

still waiting with anticipation an e-mail from the seller with all details.

I'd also take a look at these and get as much info as poss from the owners:

If you are going to pay around 6k. it would be faie to expect the important things to be reasonably up to date. Paying a lower price means you would probably have to get these things done. As mentioned several times, rust free condition sills is a big plus.

Post subject:  Re: does anyone here know of this car?

looks great from the pics, but its quite a short write up 4 the money asked, is it just me? or anyone else think its abit strange not mentioning that its had the sills done in the add? when you get there remove the door vennts and take a look at how the sills have been repired. also try a magnet. my sills were fine and soilded when knocked on. then after so snow useage the front fender came a away from the mounting point, were this had been repired with filler and fiber glass at some point. when i had the car resparyed and the lower stone chip removed half the lower rear wing came with it.

really you just got 2 ask your self how nice an example you need? and how much useage. 4 some a 944 is still a 944 as long as it moves and others every little mark counts, im quickly becoming the later off the 2.

drive a few off the same moddle if u can, even if u got no intentions off buy it. as some cars will have less power then others. this may help you get a feel 4 what its ment 2 be. wish i had my 944 is the only one iv ever been in.

looking at the recent work its had done i would say it had about 1.5/2.500 spent on it and you should have quite some troble free motoring.

Post subject:  Re: does anyone here know of this car?

thanks for the reply, much appreciated :)

can you tell me how much it would cost to get the aux camchain tensioner slipper pad renewed? i'd like this done as it hasnt been done in the sellers ownership.

also, the car is located in sheffield, is there a good indipendant or engineer close by to have a look at the car either whilst i'm there or before just for peace of mind??

cheers,

Al. :D
