Post subject:  Got the car back

Collected my car yesterday. It passed the MOT with only an advisory on parking brake (hand brake for us UK citizens). This was the first MOT in my ownership, so i was nervous.

The car had already had belts, rollers, idelers and tensioners changed in 2007 as well as water pump. I took this chance to have the belts (both cam and balance) changed as it had been nearly 4 years.
I asked the garage to look into my squeeky brakes - which turned out to be that i need new brake pads all round. I also noticed a horrible grinding noise after i had swtiched the car off that lasted for a few minutes. This turned out to be a badly worn Turbo water pump.

I also asked them to sort the sloppy gearchange. This was done by changing the stick to a 968 item and replacing worn bushes. Instructions are available if anyone wants them.

Total price was £900 - gulp, but the drive home was a sensation. The gear shift is just how it should be.

However,

I gave the car a clean today and noticed a few items that need attention.

Firstly,

The metal trim around the small side window has come away from the rubber. Is this wasy to fix, just shove it back in?

Also, the dashboard light ilumination level potentiometer has been pushed into the dash. How can i get this sorted?

Bloody cars......

Firstly well done on MOT mate always a nervous time. The drive home seems like it was better then the drive in. My intermittent wiper speed control pushed through like your control has and it was the plastic fitting that holds it in at the back snapped off. Had to replace the dashboard piece the buttons sit in, wasn't expensive, Jon M (  ) has them on the shelf at the workshop, least he did few weeks ago. I changed mine so must be easy, couple of screws at the end of the dash and it comes off.

Rav, the trim just pushes back in. The switch should just push back in as long as all the mouting tabs are still there. Get your headlamps levelled up as well! 5 mins with a 10 mm socket and a 12 inch extension! Saves burning your motor out!

Rav, if you look at the headlight bar that goes between the 2 headlight pods, there are 2 brackets that hold it on to the chassis legs. You need to adjust the fore and aft play in them to make the lights square. You also then need to check that the motor is running squarely as well, you will hear if it is not.You will probably need to adjust the left one on your car as your left light is low. Give me a phone if you want and I can talk you through it if you get stuck,

Thanks Alasdair. I will start a new thread on this with pictures as i guess some others may find it useful.

I will do this just as soon as my kids stop playing 'shops' with me.
