Hi, I have a knocking noise which seems to be coming from the rear, possibly the left hand side but can't be to sure. Seems to get faster as I go faster but stops when I stop. It's not coming from the engine as it stops when I'm stationary and rev the engine although the sound is similar to the sound of a knocking engine. Any ideas before I take it to my indie. 1989 Turbo

CV joint knackered or low on grease would be my guess. Strip the driveshaft off & clean & strip each CV joint, regrease & refit with new bolts.

I got money knocked off when I bought my car because the vendor thought it had the problem Jim mentions. Over the next week or so I worked out that the noise went away when I touched the brake pedal - turned out to be the pads rattling in the near-side rear caliper. Tightened the spring (bent it a bit) and never had a problem since.

Worth a try.

I had a tapping metalic noise over bumps and found it was the handbrake cable rattling where it feeds to the left hand side.
A cable tie fixed this.
