Whilst I appreciate that a cabriolet is never going to be a rigid as the hard top, it is a bit flexy and I wanted to know if anyone had tried anything to stiffen it up. On normal A and B roads it's fine, but on the local C and D roads that are more patchwork than road, it rattles and squeaks a bit more than I would like it to. It doesn't often get driven hard (but then again I did just break an antiroll bar bracket) and I wondered if anyone else had tried anything with any success? It's about to get a set of Lindsey Racing brackets to prevent failure of the antiroll bar bracket again, and I was contemplating a strut brace... however, I don't think that is going to add the rigitidy through the middle of the body (where the roof should be doing it's job) that I'm looking for. Anyone any thoughts? Other than "buy a hard top"? |

.... it would appear not! Ah well, might try the strut brace anyway to see if it helps. Will let you know. |

I saw an advert the other day for a top strut brace and chassis brace, which I presume goes across the cross member region of the car, however as you mention it is probably not front or rear end stiffness that is lacking more the stiffness of the bit holding the two ends together. I have not seen anything to do this at least not made officially. |

The floor pan is stiffened, I don't think the strut braces you are talking about would make it any worse. There is only one way to find out, and I don't have a cabby. |

Hi Just saw your post, I have a strut brace on my cab and still suffer from 'scuttle', as you say you feel that mostly on minor roads I don't know of a remedy for that. What I would say though is that the brace on my cab rubs on the bonnet due to its diameter causing damage to the paint surface, so you might want to try something with a lower (flatter) profile. A strut brace is to stop the strut tops meeting each other and will not improve the scuttle shake, this is due to the lack off roof. You can but brackets that go between the rear seat belt mounts (for a 911 cab) I know that these will not fit a 944, but maybe someone makes them for a 944. Other than that weld on a roof or live with it Unless of course the sills or floor are rusty |

Thanks guys... looks like some more research required. Will keep you posted on what I discover. The sills have already been done by Specialised Paint in Reading at enormous expense a couple of years ago (the outer looked absolutely fine - the inside was ruined). |
