Having had thoughts about ben's lovely 944 s2 that needed welding.
I thought I might try a 944 what needs the sills replacing, I am pretty good with welding having made my own caterham 7 esk chassis to a good standard a few years ago.
But as I haven't worked on a 944 before I'm reluctant to spend a lot on a project car that I may or may not be able to save. But I don't want to put a lot of time into a really rough car either.

So the challenge, does anyone have a nice 944 lux (prefer oval dash) in a nice colour, silver is my favourite, red, white or black. That needs the sills welding and maybe a couple of mechanical jobs like the brake lines etc but is otherwise nice with history etc.

There must be a few languishing in peoples garages somewhere that are beyond ecomonical repair unless you DIY.
If I get a good project I'll post a lot of pictures and complete a DIY guide etc so others can see how scary (or not) the proposition is!

Theres loads on ebay. Since reading the threads on here, I regularly look and think they are hiding something in the advert

If your going to the trouble & expense to save a '44 then it would make sense to rescue a car worth rescuing. Rather than buying a car on ebay & welding it up only to sell it with 12 mths ticket for less than you paid for it. Bens car has the advantage of a mint interior & good shiny paint. It's also a 3 litre S2 that everybody says you should buy. If you can weld then if you buy the sills preformed it can't be too bad. If you want to keep it afterwards it would be a good project. There are others on ebay of course but Bens been very honest with the faults on his so you know what your in for. I can tell you from experience that many of the cars on ebay will cost several times what there worth to fix.

Agree with JJ - I did that back in Jan. My welding skills are average at best and I made a reasonable job on a 1989 2.7 model.
But worth noting that depending upon how long it has been off the road, other jobs are likely as not wanting to be done (fuel lines/hoses, electrics suffer from a lay up, thermostat, clutch (master and slave cylinders), brake lines and hoses (and if you're unlucky like me - the ABS unit too), etc etc), likely cambelt etc). I also had steering issues to resolve...

I also made a mistake of going by the pictures only of the car before buying (! ) not off ebay - but another forum- and the sills were *bad*.

On the upside the car did come with a FSH and very good interior.
I reckon - all in - I put about £1500 into the car (including sale price) to get it back on the road and looking OK. But I wasn;t doing this for the fast sale, but as I always wanted a 944 and probably will keep it for quite a while.
