My daughter Kirsten is getting married on Sunday at Mottram Hall near Prestbury. She is staying there the night before. John the groom and Alex the best man are travelling there from Congleton on Sunday in his Alfa Spider, while John and Alex the ushers are travelling in Alex's Lotus Elise. By the way, I haven't got the names wrong, I'm John, my son's John, my daughter is marrying a John, and both the other blokes are called Alex. However there's a problem with the Alfa, so today I get the call "Hi dad, can we borrow the Porsche?". What can I say, it's my daughter's wedding, and I bet loads of young grooms would like to turn up for sentencing in a Porsche. So Sunday morning it's being done up with the white ribbons up the bonnet etc, you know what I mean. I'll make sure there are some good pictures to post up. John's collecting it tomorrow morning, so I'll have to get up very very early and wash it while the neighbours are all in bed..... because there's a hose-pipe ban here . Now then, better get off and get that speech written.......... what a guy that John must be - not only has he got my daughter, he's nicked my Porsche too ![]() |

Car washes and Jet spray bays are usually exempt from hose bans, some Sainsbury's have jet washes - if you want to stay legal.... Good luck with the wedding, if I were you - I'd give them the Porsche as a wedding gift... ![]() |

I took him out for a five mile drive in it first, showing him how to be careful with the clutch and so on. He found it quite hard to drive, the steering and clutch being heavy compared to what he's used to (Alfa Spider and Mini Cooper with electric power steering). The thing he really couldn't get used to is the location of the handbrake. Still, he's been gone an hour and hasn't phoned up to say he's broken down or crashed! Back to the speech, which I have put this line in - Just a little point here John, asking a man for his daughter’s hand in marriage is one thing, but asking to borrow his Porsche for your wedding car….. you’ve got to learn where to draw the line. |
