205/50 16 and 225/50 16 have very different rolling radiuses.
If you want all four wheels to be going round at the same speed, which is something that ABS sensors very much prefer, you should consider 205/55 16 and 225/50 16. Then the actual sidewall depth will be pretty much the same, front and rear.
205/55 16 and 225/50 16 are the usual front / rear sizes for road use on early Turbos or S2s, and have very similar rolling radius / revolutions per mile. They will be fine on 7J fronts and 8J rears.
Similarly late Turbos are on 225/50 16 front and 245/45 16 rear so that the sidewalls are the same depth, the wheels are all the same radius and therefore rotate the same at the same speed. The late Turbo wheels are 7.5J and 9J width but you would probably find that you were OK using those tyre sizes on your 7J and 8J. However, for normal road use I actually prefer the early Turbo / S2 sizes: you still get plenty of grip, the unsprung weight is a little lower, which improves the ride a little, plus you have lower aerodynamic drag and rolling resistance, greater resistance to aquaplaning, and better steering feel.
This Toyo chart for the T1-R range is a useful guide to what sizes are equivalent radius, and what is recommended for fitting on what width of rims:
