Post subject:  944 s2 electrics

I have finally got round to getting into the garage to resurrect my 944s2, I charged the battery and have found the following:

HAVES: electric mirrors, heater motor, wipers, power seats, interior courtesy light, immobiliser light and digital clock

HAVE NOTS:just about everything else including ignition/dashboard lights, exterior lights, engine doesnt turn

A visual check shows nothing obvious, the car has been garaged so fairly well protected from the elements but has been standing for over a year, any advice greatly appreciated on things I can eliminate before calling in an auto-electrician.

Thanks, Gary H

first thing I would do is remove clean and refit all the important earthing points. If you check the manual you'll find a schematic showing where they all are but if you do nothing else do the strap that connects the engine to the chassis . Its the short strap at the back of the cam cover to firewall.
Also do the earthing points along the top chassis rails under the bonnet just in front of the relay/fuse box MPll & MPlll )and inside the headlamp pod well pass side.(horns and lights) all brown wires

The earth to the fuel pump is on the rear valance under the carpet (MP1)

Worth cleaning the connections to the startermotor also.

Check that you have 12v+ at terminal 30 of the DME relay base which is constantly live . You may have a faulty ignition switch

Remove & reseat all the relays & fuses, using switch cleaner, fine wet & dry on anything that looks iffy. Does it have an immobiliser fitted, if so it may need a few cycles before it clears.
