I took the car 2 chilham motor sports, there a spcalist. There's about ever old Porsche in there work shop and quite a collection of parts, 914, 924 turbo 944 s2cab, a few 944 and 911s and some other modles I think there was 964 under a cover. They seem 2 know there stuff.

My car at frist failed, they take them else were, the driver side main light turns off on full beam. They charge me £106.25. 40 for mot and 60 larbour and £6.25 bulb, however the problem wasn't fixed ( tempery)? Anyway I checked and it still don't work. Need furrer invesgation.
Any ideas? The driver fog light also dims

Got a few advisrys
corrsion on the ferrals on the brackes and some corsion of the under body, were and how bad I'm yet 2 find out.

Take it straight back to Chilham & ask what you paid for as the lights still don't work. Shouldn't cost you a penny! Thats what your paying for. Could well be the wiring loom were it bends when the lights go up & down but go back & talk to them.

J.J is absolutely correct, I had the same problem on my 928s pop up lights.... put UP the lights and I would lose ONE main beam... although both dipped beams were fine....

Changed both bulbs...no difference....changed big light relay...no difference...

Eventually traced it to the wiring where it was clipped into the inner wind and the wiring had broken internally under the clip and INSIDE the insulation.....absolute pig to find

If it is the same you will need a good multimeter and some electrical knowledge to find it, or pay an autoelectrian...

Relaced the section of wiring and all worked perfectly again...

yes jj your quite right and i was shocked and not impressed.

so the broken wire or wires should be visaulable tracable from the light back? do i really need a electrion?

Hi t3rra,

You won't necessarily see a broken wire. The wire could be broken but the insulation around the wire may still be fine. Thats why you need a multimeter. If you put it into resistance mode, you should be able to check the continuity from one point of the wire to the other point of the wire. If the wire is ok, you should see around 1 - 2 Ohms. Anything higher such as infinity, then you can assume that wire has gone O/C.

Don't be too hard on Chilham. The joy of old cars is finding a fault. Seeing it work & think you've fixed it. Then a week later the old fault returns & you realize there must be something else as well! It's what they say to you when you go back that counts! Top dollar should mean top service.
