Hi All

Can anybody help with a timing issue on a N/A 2ltr 924?

In the dim distant past, the engine has had a full rebuild (as per the previous owner). Whoever did the rebuild, put the flywheel on the wrong way round as the timing marks are now 180 degrees out and are therefore useless when using a timing light. There are a couple of marks on the front pulley but I don't think that they were put there by the factory. I suspect that a previous tuner has put them there so I do doubt their accuracy.

I don't think that the current timing is far out as it does run and pull well without any pinking. My thoughts are to do a series of uphill acceleration tests whilst moving the distributor round a little at a time, until I get the best result. Anybody got any other ideas?

David

Hi david, may be worth checking static timing first. There should be a small dot on the cam sproket that lines up with a pointer cast into the cam cover. the crank pulley should line up with a pointer on the oil pump. If you look inside the distributor the rotor arm should also line up with a mark on the distributor body, near where the wiring enters.
Hope this is of some help.

Matt

Hi David,

Surely you can use the timing marks on the flywheel, just connect the timing light to No 4 ignition lead?

Best Regards, Barry

Hi Barry

Yes, I had a thick moment when I posted earlier

I did work this out myself a couple of days ago and I was hoping that no-one would notice!
