The good old Red Shed has produced an interesting ailment.... if anyone can shed any light on it would be much appreciated. If it can also be explained in really, really simple terms that would be even better as I have the mechanical ability of a turnip. Red Shed has been in the lock-up for two weeks, which is dry and watertight. Took him out today for a spin and noticed that the drivers footwell carpet was damp. There is a slow drip (now thankfully stopped) of liquid from a pipe under the dash, next to the central column. Not used the screenwash and not raining so hasn't come in from outside. I may be being thick and it could just be water, but it had a slightly oily texture to it. Are there any fluids capable of leaking into the cockpit? With any other car I've owned they normally p155 all over the ground or round the engine bay, not back inside. Spent an hour searching online and can't find anything that seems relevant. On another note, I may have to flog my beloved Shed (and the Defender) in the near future as next month am scheduled to become a father and a "sensible car" (the thought makes me quite ill) may be required - if anyone is interested in a 180k S2 which I have spent over £3500 on in the last 12 months and previous owner had for 20 years, please let me know. Heater matrix or one of the hoses going to it. I know you cant send children up chimneys now, but would you be allowed to borrow one to fix this? It's a pig to get to. Dont forget, when the leak stops, you have run out of water. I'm guessing it's the return hose and has stopped when the matrix drained. If you turn the heating to hot, see if it starts again. |

S2s take baby seats. I have one. (baby seat & the baby to go with it.) They also have big boots. No need to sell it till the sprogs 9 years old at least  By which time they will be in love with it too & put up with terminal cramp etc just to turn up in a Porsche.

Heater matrix... oh joy. Thank you for the advice, shall book in with my mechanic first thing Monday. I am aware baby seats will fit the S2 but my beloved wife does not think putting sprog in a 21 year old car without airbags is safe. Plan is that she will commandeer my Rangey so I will in turn have to buy an everyday car. Which, if I have my way, will be a 911.... Every cloud has a silver lining, even if it is just uranium dust! Closer inspection today reveals is not water but some other fluid - brake/clutch/power steering, perhaps? Hopefully is just a seal gone, but whatever it is certainly should not be inside the car and I'm not driving it until its fixed! |

In an accident it's weight that counts. You can't beat the laws of physics. I would rather have an accident in a 944 than in any of the modern toy town cars that are out there. Most of which weigh as much as a paper bag & are known by the police as body bags. Really your '44 is a safe car. Though the safest feature is the driver!  My wife wanted to get rid of mine until I took her out in a few of the alternatives. All of which made her very car sick & seemed so flimsy after the Porsche.

I'm with JJ on this one. I transport my 11 month old son and 5 year old daughter around in my S2. Child seats do fit but to get a 100% fit, you may have to get a seat belt extender from Porsche Shop. As for the boot, it swallows up a lot of baby stuff. I'd hold fire before letting the S2 go. PM me if you want any pictures of the child seats in my car sending on to you. You could even show them to wifey to show her it can be done. Ben

Brake fluid is suprisingly good at soaking through the carpet and stripping the paint off the floor below it if left for too long (as the previous owner of this car had done  ).

Best child seat can be bought new from Porsche for £150. I should have bought one having looked at it. Though I have a travel carry cot that goes across the back seats & allows baby to sleep lying down (0-9mths) which is great & more comfortable. You can also reach from the front seats & see whats going on which you can't do in a conventional car!

That was truly an excellent night -I would suggest it fitted the definition of "Best Bar In The World" - fantastic food, great drinks, £100,000's of Porsches and everything FOC. As and when I get the seat in one of the Porsches will post a picture (me looking triumphant, wife looking worried, no doubt).The fleet - I love all my cars, which is why I bought them in the first place. The Defender is 90% certain to go, as it is worth a fair lump and is rarely used and I need the space to park something else. The 944 may go if someone make me a sensible offer, but I'm not about to give it away as I have sunk thousands into it over the last 12 months and I'm quite fond of it - however, if a sensible amount is not offered then I can stick it back in the lock-up. The 911 - I would rather eat my own hair than sell it, staying forever. The sprog - any day now, spare room decorated including massive canvas print of a 911 and have bought a "snuggle suit" (whatever the hell that is) which bears the legend "my daddy drives a Porsche" - sad, isn't it? - to ensure brand awareness from day one. As long as it doesn't grow up with a fetish for Volvos I'll be happy - I really don't like children very much but if I can turn it into a petrolhead that would be a small consolation. Is there a minimum age for joining TIPEC? |
