Post subject:  Tyre Pressures
Hi,
I am running the standard Design 90 wheels on my S2, fronts 205/55 16 and rears 225/50 16, the manual states the pressure should be 29 front 36 psi rear, has anyone set up different pressures and found it to be better, i.e. the front end doesn’t wander around so much.

Mine is a Lux on S2 corners but I run 32 all round. It kills the understeer & the slightly lower rear pressures save your spine!

I'm on 34 all round! Bit hard but handles better for sure. :)

My S2 handbook states something ridiculously high which almost loosened my fillings but the Michelin chart for Porsche indicates 36 all round for your size and is what I run my tyres at albeit they are a different size, done this for two years the car handles well still comfortable and tyre wear is minimal and even.

Sorry to raise this one again, but something I've been thinking about over the winter - car been laid-up to save on the road-tax and body rotting salt ! :(
My car ('90 S2 on D90 wheels), handbook states 36psi front & 44psi rears - which I think is rather high. Talking to an owner of a 968 with 17" wheels his book states 36psi all around. I now have set of Pirelli P6000's which I have run the rears at 40psi for most of last year - still went around corners ok ! Any recommendations from anyone please ? :wink:

A bit harsh I would think! I have 245x45x16's on rear and 225x50x16's on the front and find 32PSI all round works best for me in terms of comfort/performance.

i run 18's at 38 psi 265 rear 235 front
high but thats the way i like it.

On my previous S2 Cab I Ran 34F & 35R on 17" Cup 2's with Kumho 225/45 & 245/40 a bit harsh on ride but I put that down to the 17" wheels.

On my current 944 Turbo I have run 34F 36R on the Std 16" 225/50 245/45 Toyo Proxes T1-R for the last 4+ years - Works well, Tyre wear ok with 10000mls clocked. (Book says 36F 44R !)

My tyres are rated at max pressure 36psi. Be careful. 44 way too much for most modern tyres. Check the sidewall!

Thanks for the advice - good thinking J.J. - sidewall indicates 51 p.s.i. max - but I'll drop to 38 and experiment from there. I probably won't notice much difference but the rears may have some "give" and not rattle my teeth ! Happy motoring, thanks :)

Blimey how is there so much variation in the hand books on PSI?

I have a standard 91 S2 with original D90's and it states 36 psi all round and I have been running this the whole time I have had the car.

I thought it seemed a little high but who was I to question the Porsche handbook?

44 sounds dangerous to me. I would be worried if I had that much air in my tyres.
