hi there , i have a 1981 5 speed 924. it appears to have a leak from the tank and i am thinking of getting it out and replacing it. does the gearbox have to come out to get the tank out ? and advice ? has anyone contemplated taken it out from above by reomving the boot floor ? cheers |

If it is has a leek I'd suggest that it is a plant ![]() Yes pretty sure the box & beam have to come out on a 924, you'd have to cut the boot floor out & weld it back in which is much more work than dropping the box. |

Apparently not but a new steel one is £1350 + VAt from OPC and the plastic one is not an option. |

I used to love sending heat exchangers from air handling units ( imagine a 6ft by 8ft car radiator ) to Serck for repair. Their main workshop was in Kendal and they used to come back in the crate with mint cake. All that sugar and the thing was back together in minutes. ![]() |

A 924 can be adapted to accomodate a plastic fuel tank, but it isnt a straightforward replacement. |
