When fitting a coilover suspension kit to the rear what needs to be done about the torsion bar? Can the torsion bar be deleted simply, if so how? ie can it just be cut out |

I believe the torsion bar stays in place and the spring in the coilover acts as a helper spring to stiffen it up some more. Then again my knowledge of coilovers on 944s comes from watching that episode of Wheeler Dealers so probably not too accurate. |

My understanding is that the torsion bar should be re-indexed such that the coilover is in compression at its un-laiden ride height. This stops strange suspension behaviour as the coilver comes into compression when the suspension is depressed (not the miserable one). |

You can also remove it, but if you don't you should re-index it. |

Depends who you listen to, if your torsion bars have settled a little and you can adjust your spring plates to lower the rear you may not need to re-index, it depends on the rear ride height after the coilovers are correctly adjusted. Some people like to lower the ride height a couple of inches, I wonder how often they inspect the ball joints though. |

I think my suspension has settled a little ![]() When I was at the tyre shop the other day I asked them to try loosen the bolts on the trailing blade so I could lower the rear about 20mm, then I would drop the front. The problem was the bolts would not budge! |
