1988 944S has devloped a noise. It can be heard after the car been in use. Noise stops when the engines turned off. It noise it self is a bit like the clicking of the indactours, mixed with a driping noise. I don't get it on start up so i'm assuming it's nothing 2 do with the contents of the golve box. Can't be heard outside the car or with the bonnet up.

Iv also got a slight rattel, metal on metal type noise from inside my drivers door. My glass was smashed by a fritter lorry a while back. Iv had the door cards of and removed the rest of the glass tht the fitter missed. Is it possable the window regulatour is loose, or something 2 do with the doors been removed at respary.

Also my hand brake has started 2 come up past the seat. Is this ajusted at the base of the leaver under the carpet? Looks like it could be, just wanted 2 check 1st.

Many thanks

The noise near the glove box sounds like it could be a chattering relay.

Thanks tri man

Relay, one off the large fuse things in the fuse box. I was thinking it could be electrical, as that were a lot off the wiring is, sound is like an old type writer. It can be heard while in on the move at slow speeds.

Are try pulling a few off the relays while someone lessins out. Is there any which shouldn't be in plug while the engine is running.?

There should be a legend on the underside of the fuse box cover, this will tell you what all the relays and fuses do

It's the cooling fan, been 2 gfs and euro parts. They want £150 for a new relay! Is this the normal price? Has anyone got a second hand one they would like 2 sell?

Have you tried Porscheapart? New one will be made in Hungary last 5 minutes. My window relay chatters a bit sometimes. It still works. The dates stamped on it & it's original.

Take it out and clean all the pins with emery paper. If it doesn't stop chattering take it apart and clean it, using contact cleaner and a little bit of emery board / paper on the internal contacts.

Other than that there's the guy on here from Bodelwyddan who is breakinga pile of 924s - he might have something

Here's the thread called Parts Clear Out viewtopic.php?f=36&t=8523

Ok will give it a try, looked there £50 2nd hand at porsche apart.

Also my streeing wheel has started a rubbing noise again, like a srachting sound. It happened b4 but went away. Now it's back.

Hand bracke addjustment? Should it only pull up as far as the bolster on the seat base.

I was going to come back on and add, before my computer crashed, that relays act on the information sent to them - therefore you need to check out the wiring from the cooling fan and clean all connectors on it before you spend money buying a replacement relay.

your handbrake is best ajusted at the rear wheels, all the ajuster the handle end is good for is cable freeplay, many ppl choose the lazy option and ajust the cable, it will work but in the long run its worth doing right.

take off your rear wheels and look at the center of the disks. oh and slide off the spacer so your only looking at the disk, there will be a small rubber bung or just a hole, depending wether the bung was put back last time :) ,if you get a small torch and start turning the disk by hand you will see what looks like a cog and a threaded bar, this is the handbrake shoe ajuster , using a flat blade screwdriver wind the ajuster out untill the brake disk can no longer be turned , do this both sides , pull the handbrake on and off a few times to check for travel , then recheck the disks, they now should be able to turn with some resistance, if not wind the ajuster off one movement, the handbrake should now be fine and not need attention your quite some time . :D

i know it sounds hassle but do it right first time everytime and your car will just get better and better 8)

Thanks everyone, iv cleaned the pins the noise is still there. I did some resheaech on how relays work, it's the voltage input that creates the relays points 2 connect and turn on, a bouncing or chattering relay could be due 2 the improper current. Also the chattering is the starting signs 4 a new relay.
