Once the car is warm and idling what oil pressure should the car be running? I think the Pixie is running a little low (just below 2). It also seems to use quite a lot of oil too, the engine has done 140K and I think it'll need a rebuild in the not so distant future! |

My S2 runs around 4.5/5b when hot and running above 2krpm below that i.e. at tickover when very very hot it runs at 2.5/3b and when only normal temperature it runs around 3.5b. It may not be your actual pressure it could be an inaccurate gauge, I don't think they are the most accurate things. The oil usage could be caused by using a too thin oil you could maybe try a slightly thicker one, or maybe it needs an oil change. |

Thanks, I don't think the gauge is faulty, my car runs at 4.5/5 running but at idle when the car has gone around 50 miles and is hot it runs at just below 2. The car is reliable on long journeys, it completed a 500+ mile journey in one day faultlessly and the oil pressure at idle did not drop below the "just below 2" marker. It's not due an oil change, I did one only about 2K ago. I currently use 10w40 Mobil Super S oil. I used to run on 15w50 mineral oil in my old 944, which I don't remember the oil pressure of, think it was between 2 and 2.5 though it was a while ago I had the car. |

Depends on oil grade & engine condition. I'm using 5/40 & after a hard drive it ticks over at 2.5 on the gauge the same as you. Putting 10/40 in next when its serviced. So long as its 5 bar on full chat then it's ok. If it's using a lot of oil maybe 15/40 would be better. We have had some warm weather recently & that has an effect on mine. They all use a bit of oil if you drive with spirit! |

Mine dropped off a bit - about 1 bar on the guage - where previously it was always a heatlyh 4.5 at speed and at least three at idle when hot. So I had it checked out. Turns out the pressure sender was faulty so a new one is going in this afternoon. |
