I've noticed that the driver's door drops slightly when I open it. The paint on the bottom leading edge has been rubbed against the wing.

Is it just a case of replacing the pins?

Thank you.

Yes I'd be interested in comments too

I expect its not just the pin but the part of the hinge that bolts to the body pillar that needs replacing.Van the pin be drifteed out in situ or does the door need taking off - its very tight in there?
On one forum there was something about a tufnol bush. No parts manual I've seen mentions a tufnol bush and the parts catalogue just shows a pin. Is it year dependant ( mines an 86')

My door had dropped and when the bodyshop fitted the new door they re-aligned it with all the old bolts and pins. Don't know if you need new parts or you can adjust it with the bolts?

Lee.

My mechanic friend says it's the bottom pin that is worn. However reading this thread - viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2332&hilit=door+pin - it is suggested it might be the hinge itself. I have spoken to an old acquaintance who is the 'parts man' at VW in Gee-X. He's been there 20 years and informed me that the hinge was originally made for the Mk1 Golf and was also used in the Corrado (I had a G60 once). The old hinges had a sleeve in them designed to wear out. On the later cars they changed it and made the pin softer so that the pin would wear out, and that on my car it will be the pin.

The pin is part number 321 831 421. It was said on the other thread, and confirmed by OPC Wilmslow, that it is a VW number.

VW want £5.22 inc VAT each.

OPC wants £4.77 inc VAT each, which is £4.29 each after the usual 10% discount.

They'll be here Friday - an excuse to go and drool in the showroom.

Hope it was interesting.
