Helo everybody,
I've recently aquired a very nice low mileage 944 turbo cabriolet :D .
I'm curious to know how much it cost new in 1991?
anybody know?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Couldn't find an exact price in my books strangely enough but found a listing for a '85 turbo coupe which gave a basic list price of £25,311 at launch so if it's anything like my '89 Turbo SE coupe it could be around the £40k mark which was the price of a decent house for some people back then :shock: Only 100 RHD cars were made so you've got a rare piece of machinery there which will only go up in value in the coming years :D We need some pics of the gorgeous machine when you can :bounce:

Just found an S2 Cabriolet in '89 was £39,130 at launch so a ltd edition turbo I'm thinking now might be closer to the £50k mark.
All I could find on Wikicars was this quote
"The 944 range reached its climax in the summer of 1990, with the introduction of the faintly ludicrous 944 Turbo Cabriolet, using the 250BHP power plant mated to the drop-dead gorgeous Cabriolet bodyshell. The price was extortionate - very few were built in its year-long production run. "

I have one that shows the base S2 cab price at 40904.44 and a 250 turbo at 42719.63 so a cab would be closer to 50 as Andy suggests.

I believe the cab sold for near 40K for most of its life. Big money even then.

That's without options, I have the sales brochure and list prices in my archive I will have a look when I am home.

Interestingly it is comparable with a new Cayman S now although there is the small matter of 20 years of inflation that skews the figure somewhat.
It either makes the Cayman a bargain or the 944 very expensive.

That'll be interesting Sean. While you're there could you see what my '89 Turbo SE 250hp would of been with all the extra's fitted i.e A/C, C/C, LSD, MO30 kit, Turbo S alloys, cream leather E/Seats. Jon M said he had the sales invoice somewhere when I bought it along with the photo's of the restoration to the rear end after a little shunt but he's never come up with goods unfortunately :( At least Rav sent me what he had from his time as owner, top man :thumbright:
Thinking about it would Porsche have records if I say asked at an OPC :?:

Cheers David You're a star :thumbright: Just begs the question why are our cars so cheap(ish) now. If it had a more exotic engine like in Ferrari 308 or Mondial of the time we would be looking at our cars being worth 3 times as much at least. £1300 pound for a cd player remember 20 years ago cd was cutting edge technology I remember when we had the first dvd players from Philips in the showroom I worked in, £1000+ for a DVD player, pick one up for £20 or less these days, still I bet those original players are STILL working unlike the rubbish sold today that'll fail in 13 mths time just out of guarantee. 1st NICAM VCR's from Mitsubishi were £800 and Panasonic were over £1000 :shock: 80's indulgence :roll:

I know what you mean about reduction in value.
I had a 42" plasma screen stolen from an exhibition stand in 1997 and had to claim £14000 for a replacement :shock:
I stillhave the DVD player that was used for the whole system and that was £1600 :roll:

No problem. I picked the lists up from a forum post somewhere, I forget so I can't take any credit for hunting it out for hours. But it certainly makes very interesting reading.

Far be it for me to talk our prices down any further but I've just bought a 94 Range Rover LSE as a winter runabout and flood avoider.
Granted it's a couple of years newer but condition wise I'd say it is equivalent of a 5K turbo. Now importantly it started out at a list of around 45K so about the same as a 250 turbo.
Now I got a good deal but it wasn't an absolute steal but I paid comfortably less than half of said 5K.
What I'm trying to say is that maybe in comparison with cars of a similar age with similar upkeep requirements perhaps the 944 doesn't do quite so badly?
