I just completed an install of all my ignition bits bar the coil.

You may be interested to know that the £42 set of ignition leads I bought from GSF for my 2.5na 944 turned out to be Beru leads with Porsche part numbers - that's a 50% saving on any other set I've seen. The distributor cap and rotor were also Beru and once again cheaper than anywhere else.

I was amazed that my distributor cap and rotor were in the condition they were in! Terrible. Just look at these pics - can you see the damage to the rotor and inside the dizzy?

The old plugs were also in a bad way - should I be overly concerned that there was a little oil on them?

The rest of the details are on a blog post if you're thinking of doing this yourself. It's easy.

Quite common TBH, the rotor arm is fairly knackered even by the standards of dodgy ignition though. You should notice an improvement anyway. As for the plugs, does the car do short journey's? If it does then I'd expect to see them like that & wouldn't worry.

They're worse than the ones I took off mine when I bought it. I agree with Jim, the plugs look OK to me, time to worry is if they are wet or very black

thanks guys - yes it mainly does short journeys.

After the oil & air service I took it for a whirl this evening - goes fantastic now, definitely better! More responsive and smoother. Lovely.
