Post subject:  cup 1 or twist style wheels?

I have cup 1 alloys fitted on my Lux and have always fancied the twist turbo type alloys, so I bought some this weekend.Ive fitted them on the drivers side to see what they look like and Im not so sure now as the cup1s fill the arches nicely where as the twists dont do so as much.
My questions are1. which ones are more prefered/stylish by everyone and2.is it just a case of spacers needed behind the wheels in order to fill the arches better.
cheers
Alan

Personally I'm not convinced by any of the Cup X type wheels. I keep looking for a set of split rims for mine but can't find any for decent (as inI can afford) money. I also like the later Carrera style 18"s but don't want mine on anything bigger than 17".

I have cup 3's (aka Turbo Twist). I think that they look the mutts nutts. They are not original - made by Mille Miglia as the ET is 23 on my car.

But i guess each to their own.

It's got to be your personal choice. I like the twists myself. Each to his own!

Cup 1's for me. What I was going to get until I was 'in the right place at the time' so to speak and got these split rims :D

Hi Alan, split rims can look amazing, especially with the center in black, modern wheels but inkeeping with a more retro style, but persoanlly i have the turbo twist style wheels purly becasue they were damn cheap and a no hassle upgrade, only cost me 270 with almost new tyres including delivery on ebay, can't really moan about that, and they do look hot + inkeeping whatever age or model 944.

Further investigation it appears that I need the spacers with the stud extensions on them in order to fill the wheel arch.Has anybody got experience with this please?
cheers

I thought this was only needed on pre-85.5 cars, i have the twist wheels and use 20mm spacers without studs just on the rear, and although the wheel does site a few cm's further in than my previous wheels, no one has ever noticed, and i constantly get comments about how much better they look compared to my old wheels. I have a spare set of spacers if you want them for free. :-)

Rav, I've just put a similar set on my '87 turbo but the rears are rubbing. Apparently mine are 996 replicas and sit about an inch proud of the wheel arch. I was told they'd fit but no mention of rubbing. Did you have any problems or have any suggestions?

What size rim and tires? On my 1988 944S My 18" rears rubBed with the 265/40 that were sold with the wheels, only the left side rubbed, even with weight on the right side. They would rub about 11/10 o clock. I changed the tires 2 correct 255/35 and rolled the left fender slightly. Problem fixed.
