Hi guys, just bought a 1984 944,I actually bought it for the fuch alloys for my 924 carrera gts replica, but the car was much better than I thought, and after replacing the fuel pump got it going, the engine runs fine and sounds nice, but it has a water leak,on the drivers side near the exhaust manifold nearest the badge panel.there is a small heatsheild between the oil filter and manifold, under the head gasket joint, the water is very clean as is the oil so not head gasket related, but water pours out,as you fill the header tank,no white smoke as such, seems to be purely a water leak but just cant see where, all pipes are ok as is the waterpump, really could do with some help,
cheers guys Richard

A crack in a casting, has it frozen at some point?

Not sure about your year but on later cars there is a metal pipe that runs along the block above the manifold. This often corrodes where it meets the hose near the oil filter.

Or in my case the hoses pops off because some numpty (me) didn't tighten up the clip properly.
