HI
PLEASE READ BELOW FIRST 1st PARAGRAPH AS HAVING A CHANGE OF HEART BUT NEED ADVICE

i have (had) a lovely red oval dash 944 in gleaming red no rust with pinstripe black interior excellant inside super teledials with new tyres which unfortunatly has had the cam tensioner go so i guess i must brake it for parts as i cannot justify any more money on it.
It is an oval dash early model so the irs would suit the vw crowd as it is the shorter irs arms but in alloy all wings body panels interior panels carpets etc are all good if you would like any parts more information send a pm or give me a call on 07795 170041 and i am sure this will keep many more going as it has had a lot of money spent on it

Having a change of heart as had a look around it this morning and i have spent so much money on it think i may as well put a bit more to it what damage do you think will be done will i need a new head/bent valves or is it worth trying a new tensioner or would you suggest another engine

Generally on the 8v lumps a snapped belt bends a few valves & maybe splits a few guides, further damage is unusual. So it shouldn't be to difficult to rebuild. Plenty of 8V heads around for a few quid or rebuild the one you've got. Freshen with recut valve seats etc. It sounds to good to break to be honest.

Agree with Jim. Could be just 2 valves or maybe all 8. So long as the pistons & bores are good you just need a decent head from the scrapyard. Well if your fussy like me you will want to rebuild it first. Well worth taking it off for a look. That won't cost you at all. I have an 8v head thats good but is warped on the top face. Will need the top skimming. (Or you will have a recurring oil leak from the cam box gasket.) Cost of a proper rebuilt head with new guides & radiused valve seats is £600. + the head. Then new belts & rollers. Maybe a front reseal. Around the 1K mark. Good time to do the water pump if it's due but you don't have to go that far. Depends if it's a daily drive. Car looks mint in the pics. Let us know how you get on. :)

i agree, take the head off and have a look, nothing to lose, 8v heads crop up on ebay regularily
