Hi, My 968 got through MOT with a few advisories. Slight play in both front wheel bearings, so I was wondering if & how to adjust or new bearings needed?? Steering rack damp due to oil leak, doesn't drop on dipstick & leave anything much on garage floor, will be changing oil soon to semi 10/40 instead of the 5/40 it's had through it's life. Handbrake just scrapped through with 18% effeciency but seems to hold on the steep hills ok to me, not much bite to it but holds lol. Thanks for any input guys Steve |

Wheel bearings probably just need a slight adjustment, jack up,axle stand, remove wheel & bearing cap, & using a 6mm (I think) allen key undo allen retainer & tighten clockwise. You should be able to move the washer with a screwdriver, don't WANG it up tight you'll knacker the bearing. Retighten retainer & put bearing cap on & wheel. Spin wheel & check there is no play at 12 & 6 o'clock & 9 & 3 o'clock, recheck after a few thousand miles. If you have to over tighten it to remove the play then it is new bearing time. Common oil leak point is oil filter housing but could also be balance shaft housing, if it isn't bad then it is a PITA to do so best left. The handbrake is always a challenge at MOT time as it is a very small drum & has to be 110%to get 16% efficiency for an MOT pass, don't worry about it! |
